Description of Covered Expenses
- Scholarship Amount: Completely funded scholarships R190,000 annually (for a maximum of 3 years)
- Support Funds for accommodation, daily expenses, tuition costs, and books/supplies.
- Medical aid coverage for health in 2027 and 2028 (students are responsible for covering 2026)
- One incoming flight to South Africa plus one returning flight home upon finishing.
- Airport shuttle available upon arrival and at graduation.
- Reimbursements for university education grants, Application and visa expenses covered upon arrival (with receipts)
Please be aware that expenses related to research operations and family obligations are excluded. Students may possess additional awards in conjunction with this scholarship; however, the overall funding must not surpass R300,000 annually.

Eligibility Requirements
You qualify if you satisfy all of these conditions:
- A national of a Commonwealth nation (not including South Africa)
- Must be 38 years old or younger at the time of application.
- Must have obtained a Master’s degree at least 2 years before applying for the 2026 entry.
- Have applied for entry into a UP doctoral program for the 2026 academic year.
- Have located a supervisor at UP and received a letter of motivation in writing confirming the availability of research funding.
- Neither a present nor a past UP Master’s or PhD student.
- Capable of acquiring a study permit and paying in advance for 2026 health insurance (to be organized individually).
