University of Delaware admissions without application fee 2024
With globally recognized faculty, an award-winning campus, and opportunities to make a difference in the world in our classrooms and labs, as well as through internship and study abroad programs offered all over the world, UD is a highly sought-after university.
We think that every one of our pupils possesses a ground-breaking concept, a creative breakthrough, or a stunning piece of art. Barriers can be broken, in our opinion. Because our pupils have done it, we are convinced. Come along with us.
Concerning the University of Delaware
The University of Delaware, one of the oldest universities in the country, was founded in 1743 as a result of a petition from the Presbytery of Lewes highlighting the need for educated clergy. The Rev. Dr. Francis Alison was the one who opened the school in New London, Pennsylvania.
Historian John Munroe described Alison’s first class as “possibly the most distinguished in terms of the later achievements of its members, taken as a whole, of any class in any school in America.”
The initial pupils would later become statesmen, physicians, business owners, and academics. Thomas McKean, James Smith, and George Read all signed the Declaration of Independence; Read also signed the U.S. Constitution.
Alison’s school moved to Newark in 1765. Renamed Delaware College in 1843, NewArk College was founded in 1834 and began offering degrees. The college was named one of the historic Land Grant colleges of the United States in 1867.
With 58 students, a women’s college was established in 1914. The two institutions merged to form the University of Delaware in 1921.
UD’s enrollment has increased fourfold since 1950, and the university has significantly increased its faculty, academic output, and global influence.
2009 saw the university acquire a 272-acre plot of land that had been a Chrysler plant and was located next to the Newark campus. The University’s Health Sciences Complex is located on that property, which is currently being developed into a space that combines business, research, teaching, and more as the Science, Technology, and Advanced Research (STAR) Campus.
Reasons to Choose the University of Delaware
1. Our graduates with dual certifications have excellent marketability
Students pursuing a focus on elementary teacher education are qualified to become certified teachers in both that field and primary teaching. They decide to focus on one of the following fields: Middle school science, middle school social studies, middle school math, middle school English, and English as a second language. Our graduates are highly marketable and have additional skills for the elementary classroom with their second teaching certificate. Through agreements on interstate reciprocity, graduates can become certified teachers in other states.
2. Top-notch instruction from nationally renowned teachers
The Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI) and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) have granted national accreditation to the Elementary Teacher Education program. Pupils acquire the knowledge and methodology required to effectively influence their peers’ learning.
According to U.S. News & World Report, the School of Education graduate program is ranked 39th in the nation. Faculty members cherish their intimate connections with undergraduates and collaborate with them on research initiatives to foster their professional development. Annual study abroad programs are available, and senior faculty members recognized by authorities in their country frequently teach undergraduate courses. The faculty develops, teaches, and models best practices for the students to follow in their future classrooms.
3. Start gaining field experience as a freshman.
From their first year of study, our students actively engage in field experiences in educational institutions. Throughout their two semesters as student teachers, they collaborate with a wide range of demographics in a variety of situations and become a part of the school ecosystem.
4. A wide range of groups and events on campus
At UD, there are more than 400 active student clubs that allow students to meet people who share their interests. One of these groups is the Association of Pre-Professional Leaders in Education (APPLE), where students studying elementary teacher education encourage social networking, outreach, and professional development activities to foster a sense of community.
5. Study abroad
On trips organized by the School of Education or any other department on campus, students can study overseas. During the optional five-week winter session in January, most trips take place. In winter 2014, students studying elementary teacher education visited Vienna and Budapest, Hungary. In winter 2015, they will travel to Barcelona and Madrid, Spain. Every trip, two UD professors instruct two courses of twenty to thirty students.
6. Academic opportunities to prepare for the classroom and graduate school
Undergraduate programs can be enhanced by experiences that students can partake in, such as collaborating with faculty members on research projects or obtaining an honors degree. Through these experiences, students are given the chance to delve deeply into topics related to education that they are enthusiastic about.
7. Resources for success
To help students succeed in their programs, the teachers and staff have a wealth of tools at their disposal. Each student is paired with an advisor who assists with course selection and points out opportunities for both professional and personal development.
Programs offered:
In order to prepare students for fulfilling careers, UD, a major research university, offers a wealth of possibilities for inquiry-based learning in the lab and in the field. Approximately 16,000 undergraduates, 3,500 graduate students, and 1,000 students pursuing professional and continuing education make up our student body.
