Private citizenship ceremonies

Private Citizenship Ceremonies are not open to the public and are often held for a specific family or individual. These are held under certain conditions, such as the following:

• Subsection 5(4) of the Citizenship Act provides for a special award in exceptional instances.
• Candidates who are critically ill and unable to travel.
• Other people who are experiencing urgent or extreme conditions.

Reaffirmation Ceremony

The reaffirmation ceremony is a ceremonial event at which Canadians demonstrate their patriotism by reciting the citizenship oath and declaring their love for Canada. It is possible for any individual to organize a celebration of this kind for their company or educational institution. In order to be eligible for this position, the individual who frequently takes the lead in leading the group in reciting the citizenship oath does not need to obtain official approval from the Registrar of Citizenship. It is also possible that this individual is a judge of citizenship, a recipient of the Order of Canada, a school administrator, or the head of a community group.
