UK Travel Update 2023
It seems that people visiting the UK from Jordan and the Gulf of Cooperation Council States will be the first to enjoy the benefits of the new ETA scheme. However, the scheme will be expanded to other countries in 2024.
- Also, people visiting the UK from Qatar will be the first to go for an ETA in October 2023. It is important to note that applying for an ETA in advance will allow visitors to travel efficiently.
- This is because the application process will be fast and fully digitalized. This will enable the majority of visitors to apply through a mobile app. Additionally, they will as well receive swift decisions on their ETA applications.
- In addition, the expense of an ETA will be the same as other international plans with two years of validity. This will also, allow approved applicants to visit the UK multiple times. This plan is intended to fortify border protection by examining travelers before them coming into the UK.
- In addition, applicants will have to give biometric details and respond to a few suitability questions during the application process. This will allow authorities to collect sufficient information about people interested in UK travel. This as well will ultimately prevent dangerous people from entering the country.
New UK Travel Reforms 2023
The Immigration Minister, Robert Jenrick, has stated that the government is devoting significant attention to safeguarding the UK border. Electronic Travel Authorization will improve border security by allowing authorities to learn about people interested in Traveling to the UK.
By doing so, the authorities can pinpoint any individuals who could be a potential risk to the nation’s safety. Additionally, it will make the system run more smoothly and quickly for legitimate users.
From February 2024, people from Jordan and other GCC countries will be able to apply for Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). Don’t forget that the implementation of the scheme will remove the existing Electronic Visa Waiver (EVW) scheme.
Moreover, ETA’s will become a mandatory requirement for visitors from every country by the end of 2024. This includes Europe, who don’t have to get a visa to visit the UK for a short period.
Currently, travelers from Europe and destinations such as the USA and Australia will not need to file for a visa to enter the United Kingdom. However, this will change after the introduction of ETA.
Irish and British citizens will not need Electronic Travel Authorization to travel to the UK. Nonetheless, those entering the UK from Ireland will still have to adhere to the UK immigration regulations, including getting an ETA. On the other hand, legal residents of Ireland traveling to the UK from the Common Travel Area will not need an ETA.
