The UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce (UKGCC) was founded in 2016 as a member-based organization to facilitate and promote trade between the UK and Ghana. Its mission is to be a strong, credible, and well-known voice in the UK-Ghana business community. The UKGCC’s mission is to provide a self-sustaining platform for all of its members to market their businesses, obtain critical information about the business environment in both the United Kingdom and Ghana, make connections, and receive support to help members achieve their commercial goals. At the same time, the UKGCC helps UK enterprises boost their inward business to Ghana.
The UKGCC promotes socially responsible and ethical business practices in conformity with the UK Bribery Act 2010. Also, The UKGCC exemplifies British and Ghanaian expertise, culture, and hospitality in assisting enterprises to exploit the vibrant and buoyant potential of both the UK and Ghana.
The UKGCC is seeking to hire a Head of External Relations. Given that the UKGCC is a self-financing organization, the ideal candidate must be a high-performing, commercially aware, well-organized, entrepreneurial self-starter with a strategic approach to forging business relationships and fostering an environment conducive to business networking.
The ability to work on numerous things at once while meeting deadlines is vital. Candidates must be strong team players, capable of managing a team and collaborating on several projects.
Job Purpose
The Head of External Relations’ primary responsibility is to direct and oversee the UKGCC’s relationships with its external stakeholders, which include member companies, all levels of government, and the media, to ensure that the UKGCC is widely recognized as a strategic partner of choice for UK businesses and investors, as well as Ghanaian businesses doing business in the UK. The Head of External Relations is also the guardian of the UKGCC’s corporate image, ensuring that all communication is consistent and in line with the corporate plan. This is in addition to organizing and managing UKGCC events and ensuring that best practices are followed to achieve the UKGCC’s goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a public relations strategy for the UKGCC, including a media engagement plan that aligns with important events and commercial initiatives.
- Responsible for managing relationships with UKGCC member companies and stakeholders.
- Organize events to promote networking among UKGCC members and stakeholders.
- Manage and supervise the external relations team to ensure timely goal delivery and successful employee performance evaluation.
- Evaluate and disseminate successful strategic communication, marketing, and resource mobilization strategies, including frequent public reporting.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree is required.
- Having a second degree may be advantageous.
- At least 10 years of experience in sales, marketing, customer service, communications, and partnerships.
- Must have extensive management expertise, including personnel and budget management, as well as the ability to create, implement, and evaluate long-term marketing development initiatives that have a major influence on the bottom line.
- Requires problem-solving skills, organization, and attention to detail.
- Strong English communication skills and effective relationship management.
- Requires analytical capabilities.
- Strong leadership and teamwork skills are required.
- Requires advanced computer skills and experience with accounting applications.
- Proven experience bringing events from concept to reality.
- Must have a strong work ethic and the capacity to work efficiently under tight deadlines.
- Must have strong interpersonal skills and be comfortable working with high-level officials.
