1. Firstly, GOLD
The primary mineral resource in Ghana is gold. Hence, Ghana is ranked as the second-largest gold producer in Africa and the seventh-largest producer across the globe. Places, where gold can be located in Ghana, include Prestea, Bogoso, Bibiani, Tarkwa, Obuasi, and Damang. In Ghana, some of the uses of gold include jewelry, coins, medicine, as well as dentistry. Some of the gold mining companies in Ghana are; AngloGold Ashanti Limited, Newmont Ghana Limited, and Green Gold Mining Ltd.
2. Secondly, CRUDE OIL
Another mineral resource that Ghana is endowed with is Crude oil. Oil production in Ghana began in 2010, and from there, Ghana is believed to have about 5 to 7 billion barrels of crude oil in its reserves. On record, Ghana is the sixth-largest oil reserve in Africa and the 25th across the globe. Some of the oilfields in Ghana are; Joy Oilfields, Jubilee Oilfields, and Butask Oilfields. In terms of its use, crude oil is used for transporting fuel like diesel, kerosene, and gasoline.
3. Thirdly, MANGANESE
Also, one of the Largest Manganese companies in Ghana is Consmin. Areas or regions in Ghana where Manganese can be found include Ashanti, Western, Northern, Central, Upper East, and Eastern. However, among these regions, the primary area where Manganese can be found is Nsuta in the Western Region. Usually, Manganese is used as an alloy to make other metals such as steel.
4. Also, DIAMONDS
Another mineral resource Ghana is rich in is Diamond. Though Diamond can be found in most countries around the globe, only a few are lucky to have access to it. Ghana, being a part of such countries has about 11 million carats of Diamond reserves which can be found in the North West of Accra. Diamonds are also often used to make materials such as jewelry as well as cutting equipment.
5. Lastly, BAUXITE
Among the minerals that can be found in the earth’s crust, bauxite is common of them all. Ghana possesses about 554 million metric tons of bauxite reserves. Areas or regions where Bauxite can be found in Ghana include Ashanti, Western and Eastern Regions. Specific locations also include: Kibi, Ejuanema and Sefwi-Bekwai.
