Job title: Economic Transformation Analyst / Associate

Job Introduction

The President and Government of Ghana have a vision of a ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ through job creation and value addition of its natural resources. This vision was captured in the post-pandemic economic recovery plan Ghana Covid-19 Alleviation and Revitalisation of Enterprises Support (CARES) that runs to 2024 and aims to transform the economy.

The Ghana CARES Programme’s key flagships include to support commercial farming, develop the digital economy and build Ghana’s manufacturing sector. All aim to provide incomes and jobs to Ghanaians, including the 300,000 youths entering the job market every year, and create value addition in Ghana through industrialisation.

In support of this agenda, TBI works with government in the strategic sectors of agro-processing, textile and garment and new technologies. We aim to support government package bankable projects in those sectors to attract private investments that will create quality jobs, livelihoods and contribute effectively to Ghana’s growth.

To contribute to our economic and investment team, TBI is seeking to recruit Analysts or Associates to support our Advisors embedded across government.

Analysts / Associates will provide delivery and analytical support to our Senior Advisors and Advisors, focused on: industrialisation, agriculture, enabling environment, investment, government delivery. They will either be fully embedded in a Ministry or work from the TBI Accra office and provide support across the team. The role will be assigned greater responsibility, autonomy and flexibility if recruited at Associate level.

This is an initial 2 years fixed term employment.


Key Responsibilities

Overall responsibilities of Analysts / Associates:

  • Conduct research on selected topics as required by TBI’s Country Director, Deputy Country Director, Senior Advisors, Advisors and Government Counterparts
  • Undertake projects/studies as required, including policy & regulatory analysis, sectoral & industry analysis
  • Facilitate our Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) framework and reporting in Ghana, liaising with TBI’s central MEL team

Detailed essential duties:

  • Firstly, Support Advisors and Senior Advisors in the delivery of workstream objectives
  • Secondly, Identify and structure problems, develop and apply appropriate analytical frameworks and approaches, and synthesize critical hypothesis
  • Thirdly, Identify and acquire relevant research and data, and perform quality control to ensure validity and accuracy of data
  • Moreover, Proactively identify risks and issues affecting task or work stream delivery, and promptly communicate upward with solution options
  • Furthermore, Support completion of high-quality written documents and/or presentations
  • More so, Articulate findings and presentations using various presentation tools, i.e., Power Point, Excel etc.
  • Thereafter, Support TBI staff and government counterparts in mapping, engaging and managing key stakeholders, including foreign and domestic investors, development partners and various government institutions
  • Then, Support the Deputy Country Director and other team members with monitoring, knowledge management, strategy and reporting
  • Finally, Plan, prioritise and manage your time and deliverables, including timelines, content, and deliverables

The Analysts / Associates will support Advisors that are delivering the following: developing bankable projects in agriculture, textile and garment and other key sectors; producing structured investment packages; assessing Ghana’s competitiveness in sectors of focus; promoting investment and reaching out to companies; facilitating negotiations and aftercare; supporting counterparts to coordinate stakeholders in government, development partners and the private sector; advising on policy and delivery; among others.

Person Specification

We are looking for promising individuals with a thirst for learning and a drive to support government to deliver. We seek to create local and international multi-disciplinary teams and are looking for individuals who are keen to develop their own skills and careers in a fast pace, motivating, multi-cultural environment.

You will have the following skills and experience:

  • Outstanding record of academic achievement
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with minimum GPA of 3.0 and above (preferred areas of study: Economics, Statistics, ICT, Business, Finance, Engineering, Marketing, Law, Communications)
  • Some level of work experience following undergraduate degree for Analysts and with more experience required for Associate level
  • Experience working in private sector development, financial institutions, economic development, industrialisation, investment promotion or related areas will be highly valued
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and data gathering skills
  • Excellent writing, presentation and verbal communication skills, including advanced use of the Microsoft Suite
  • Ability to work with limited supervision on multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines
  • Ability to work collaboratively with people at all levels, with an emphasis on high- performance, results and accountability
  • Prior extracurricular activity is highly desired, i.e, Youth Association, Community Service etc.
  • Proven willingness to learn, and ability to be a real team player
