The Steps to Take If You Forgot or Need to Change Your Facebook Password

It can be frustrating if you forget your password and even more frustrating if you realize someone has logged into your account without your knowledge. The best thing you can do if you forget your password is to search for your saved password or reset it.

HOW TO RESET YOUR PASSWORD ON FACEBOOK

Most Facebook users choose to stay logged in on their mobile devices and desktop in order to have easy access to the social media platform. However, if you mistakenly log out of the site, Facebook allows you to reset your password. Here is what to do using Facebook on your desktop browser.

• Facebook is able to save the day you log in by presenting you a Recent Login on the device you used. If you see your account, just select it and you will be logged in automatically.
• If Facebook does not remember your last log in or it is on a different device, scroll to the Facebook Find Your Account Page.
• Input your email address, phone number, your full name, or your username. Then, select Search.
• If Facebook finds a match to the email or phone number you entered, you select how you want to receive your password reset code, then click on continue.
• Facebook will show you matching search results if you entered a name. If you see your profile picture,  click This Is My Account, or select I am Not in This List.
• If you choose your account, select how you want to receive your password reset code then click Continue.
• If your account is found but you cannot access the email or phone number you used, Facebook cannot verify your identity. However, if it is found, choose the mode of resetting and click Continue.
• Type in a new password and click continue. You will successfully change your password.
• Facebook advises that you log out of other devices that have your old password. To do this, select Log out of other devices or Stay logged in, and then select Continue.
• You are ready to use your account again.

RESETTING YOUR PASSWORD FROM THE FACEBOOK APP

This is how to reset your password,  using your iOS or Android device.

• First, tap on Forgot Password on the Facebook login screen.
• Type your phone number, email address, name, or username.
• Depending on your settings, select Confirm via Email or Confirm via Text, and then click Continue.
• Type the password reset code.
• Select  Keep me logged in or Log me out of other devices and click  Continue.
• Type a new password and tap Continue.
• You are now ready to use your Facebook account again.
