THE AFRICAN COUNTRIES WITH THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS IN THE US
Over the years, millions of students travel outside their country to further their education. African students are never an exception to this. Over the last twenty years, research has proved that there is an increase in the number of African students who are pursuing further studies in the United States.
There are about 10 of these African countries that have shown massive growth. Before the Covid 19 pandemic, the total number of international students amounted to 1,075,491. However, there has been a drastic increment. Below is a list of the African countries with the number of students studying in the US.

ETHIOPIA | 2356 |

Moreso, the table above shows that Nigeria is the leading African country with the highest number of international students in the United States. Out of these 13,762 students, about 6,887 students are offering undergraduate programs and about 5,762 are also pursuing graduate programs. The rest of the students are in OPT and others also pursuing a non-degree program. The figure, 13762 thus represents that the percentage of Nigerians in academic pursuit in the United States is 93%.
According to the US Census Bureau report, it is believed that Nigerian students are counted among some of the well-educated and best students in most of the U.S Universities.
Additionally, one reason that may count for the mobility of Nigerians to the US for the pursuit of academic studies is because of their friendly immigration laws. Thus, there are several communities in the United States which are greatly dominated by Nigerians.
Another reason why Nigerian students travel to further their education in the US is probably because of the well-structured educational system of the public and private institutions or schools in the US. Though some other countries like Canada, the United Kingdom, and Germany also record quite a number of Nigerians, the number cannot be compared to that of the United States.
IN CONCLUSION
In sum, there have been several reports and surveys proving that indeed Nigeria is the leading African country with International students in the United States. Following Nigeria are African countries Ghana, Egypt, Kenya, Ethiopia, South Africa, Morocco, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, and Ivory Coast.
Research also has indicated that, in general, there is a greater demand for US education on the African continent. Thus, these statistics or numbers are likely to increase massively in the upcoming years.
