SWITZERLAND WORK AND RESIDENCE PERMIT

Switzerland boasts one of the most robust economies in the world with a workforce that is highly skilled. However, the number of employees entering Switzerland is closely regulated by the Swiss government. The number of work visas for Switzerland awarded to individuals outside of the European Union (EU) and also the European Free Trade Association has decreased recently (EFTA)

SWITZERLAND WORK VISA

A Swiss work visa is required if you wish to be able to work there. One sort of Switzerland’s long-stay visa is the Swiss work visa. The holder is eligible to work in Switzerland for the duration that the visa is in effect. Similar to other visa categories, EU/EFTA citizens are subject to different regulations than non-EU/EFTA citizens.

TYPES OF SWITZERLAND VISAS AND PERMITS

Types of permits available to migrant employees in Switzerland who require a work visa:

Permit L :

This is a short-term residency permit that entitles you to up to a year of residence in Switzerland. The L permit is based on the conditions of the contract of employment and may, in extraordinary circumstances, be extended for an additional year, but not beyond that if you stay employed by the same company.

Permit B:

If there are no reasons why it should not be renewed, Permit B, a preliminary or temporary residence permit, may be extended annually for an additional year. These licenses are given out in quotas and are associated with the same employer. The permits frequently state that you must reside in the canton where the permission was obtained and cannot leave that canton.

Permit G:

Cross-border commuting commuters who live outside the EU/EFTA and work in Switzerland are qualified for a G permit. They must make at least one weekly trip to their main residence.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SWITZERLAND VISAS AND WORK PERMITS

The following papers are necessary for a work visa for Switzerland:

  • Firstly, Three long-stay visa application forms, each duly filled out and signed
  • Secondly, a Minimum of two blank pages in a valid passport or other travel documents.
  • Three duplicates of the relevant passport pages
  • Four passport-sized photos that are identical.
  • Your employment contract and two copies.
  • An example of your professional work.
  • Copies of your credentials
  • C resume.

Consider the fact that depending on the nation, different documents may be needed. Any more documentation may be requested by the Swiss authorities if they so choose.

PROCEDURES TO APPLY FOR AN SWITZERLAND WORK VISA

The steps in applying for a Swiss work and residence permit are listed below;

  • The relevant regional government employment services in Switzerland receive your employer’s application for your residence permit first.
  • Your application is examined by the local cantonal officials, who then submit it for approval to the Federal Office for Migration (FOM).
  • You must file for a Swiss work visa while your employer submits an application for your Swiss residency visa.

The FOM notifies the cantonal offices, your employer, and you of their decision about your residence permit. Your Swiss work visa is issued by the Swiss embassy or consulate in your state if the FOM authorizes your residence permit.

Upon entering Switzerland, you have 2 weeks to register with the appropriate cantonal migration authorities at the Residents’ Registry Office.
You are able to live and work in Switzerland once you receive your residence permit.
