Study in USA | USTR Summer Internship 2025
The United States Trade Representative’s Office (USTR) has officially opened its application process for the highly regarded Summer 2025 Internship Program. This program presents an extraordinary opportunity for students, recent graduates, and veterans to immerse themselves in the intricate world of U.S. trade policy and international economic affairs.
Hosted at the USTR headquarters in the vibrant heart of Washington, D.C., this internship provides participants with invaluable firsthand experience. Interns will gain direct insight into the complexities of trade negotiations, engage in thorough policy research, and collaborate with a diverse array of government officials and stakeholders. This experience not only enhances understanding of trade dynamics but also offers a unique perspective on how international economic relations shape global markets.
While the internship is unpaid, it includes a local transportation allowance designed to ease the financial burden for those commuting to the nation’s capital. This thoughtful provision increases accessibility for aspiring trade professionals, ensuring that a wider range of candidates can take advantage of this exceptional opportunity to contribute to and learn from U.S. trade policy initiatives.
A Training Platform for Future Trade Professionals
Interns will engage with various USTR departments and can anticipate tasks that vary from:
- Carrying out comprehensive policy investigations and economic evaluations.
- Gathering data and creating briefing documents
- Facilitating logistics for meetings, hearings, and conferences.
- Creating reports, formal letters, and internal communications
- Participating in legislative markups and interagency discussions
- This practical experience is a significant foundation for individuals pursuing a career in diplomacy, economics, public policy, or international law.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be U.S. citizens who are 18 years old or older when the program begins. They are required to fulfill one of the subsequent conditions:
- Be presently registered in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program (2- or 4-year school).
- Have completed such a program within two years prior to the program’s commencement.
- Be a U.S. military veteran with a high school diploma or its equivalent, and have been discharged within the last two years.

Duration of Internship and Workload
The program for Summer 2025 is scheduled from June 9 until August 15, 2025. Interns are eligible to apply for:
- Positions that require full-time commitment (at least 35 hours per week)
- Part-time roles (15–34 hours/week)
All tasks need to be conducted on-site in Washington, D.C., since remote work choices are not offered, and no relocation or housing support is available. USTR backs students pursuing academic credit for their internship. Although the agency does not independently handle credit, it will collaborate with your institution if asked.
