From September 2, 2025, to August 28, 2026, you will collaborate closely with experts from diverse departments, all dedicated to enhancing visitor learning and interaction through thoughtful interpretive strategies. Responsibilities of Fellows
As a Fellow, your contributions will include:
- Creating front-end user research for The Met’s soon-to-commence permanent collection updates and capital initiatives.
- Facilitating collaboration between curatorial, education, design, and visitor services teams.
- Carrying out autonomous interdisciplinary studies on optimal methods for interpretive planning and assessment.
- Developing impactful structures that improve how audiences perceive, interrogate, and relate to art.
- Accountable to the Education Project Manager for Interpretive Planning and Evaluation in the Education Department.
This chance is specifically designed for early-career individuals keen to cultivate institutional strategies for visitor education, social research, and creative involvement at a world-famous museum.
Eligibility Requirements
The Met is looking for exceptionally driven individuals who fulfill the following requirements:
- Possess an M.A., M.Phil., or Ph.D. in Art History, Museum Studies, Sociology, Psychology, Education, or a comparable Humanities/Social Science discipline.
- Possess previous experience in museum environments with a focus on interpretation, audience analysis, or visitor involvement.
- Possesses an understanding of qualitative research methods and museum education practices.
- Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal diplomacy, and a cooperative attitude.
- Having the ability to create interpretive materials that encourage various ways of engaging with art is an advantage!
Stipend and Benefits for Fellowship
You will obtain financial assistance aimed at supporting your studies and career goals throughout the fellowship.
- $47,000 salary for predoctoral applicants
- $57,000 salary for postdoctoral applicants
- $6,000 travel grant for research purposes
- Extra assistance for health insurance coverage
Fellows are required to be on-site five (05) days each week (Monday–Friday) at The Met, with occasional Saturday obligations depending on research requirements.
