Evidence of English language proficiency

Non-native English speakers must exhibit English language proficiency by providing scores from one of four examinations: the internet-based or paper-based versions of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic); or the Duolingo English Test (DET). Alternative examinations will not be permitted.

This stipulation is exempted for candidates who possess:

Obtained an undergraduate degree — not a master’s or graduate degree — in a nation where English is an official language; OR

Applicants must have completed the TOEFL, IELTS, PTE Academic, or DET examinations within the past five years, achieving scores that meet or exceed the minimum thresholds of 100 (TOEFL-IBT), 600 (TOEFL-PBT), 7.0 (IELTS), 68 (PTE Academic), or 120 (DET; 75 for DET administered before to July 2019). Applicants who qualify for a waiver under this exception must provide a scanned copy of their score report to the online application to confirm their application is eligible for review. If they did not get the requisite minimum score or no longer possess a record of their previous results, they must retake an English proficiency examination.
