This opportunity offers strong financial support to high-achieving UK Home students who plan to begin undergraduate study in September 2026. The scholarship focuses on students entering technical and science-based disciplines and aims to remove financial pressure during the crucial first year of university life.
The Cobham Ultra UK Scholarship targets ambitious learners with the potential to excel in fields that drive innovation and scientific progress. Only two students will receive the award, making the selection process highly competitive.
Overview of the Cobham Ultra Scholarship
This undergraduate scholarship supports students enrolling in selected Engineering Mathematics and Physics programmes at Northumbria University. It encourages academic excellence while promoting inclusion and widening participation in higher education.

- A focus on students from underrepresented or disadvantaged backgrounds
- Support during the first academic year only
Scholarship Value and Payment Structure
Each successful applicant will receive a total award of £3500 during Year One of their degree. Students may use the funds flexibly to support both academic and living needs.
The payment schedule follows a structured timeline:
- Twenty-five percent paid in November 2026
- Twenty-five percent paid in February 2027
- Fifty percent paid in May 2027
The scholarship covers only the first year and does not continue beyond that period.
Who Can Apply
Applicants must meet at least one of the following widening participation criteria:
- Identify as coming from a Black Asian or Minority Ethnic background
- Have declared a physical disability, mental health condition, long-term illness, or learning difference on their UCAS application
In addition, all applicants must meet these mandatory conditions:
- Apply for and enroll in an eligible full-time undergraduate programme at the Newcastle Upon Tyne campus starting September 2026
- Select Northumbria University as their firm UCAS choice by 30 June 2026
- Meet all academic entry requirements for the chosen course
- Be self-funded and registered with the correct Student Finance body, such as SFE SFW SFNI or SAAS
- Allow Student Finance data sharing with Northumbria University
- Foundation Year students progressing to Year One may also apply
Students who receive this award cannot hold any other undergraduate scholarship from the university.

Both BSc and integrated Master’s routes qualify, where available.
