The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), in collaboration with King’s College London (KCL), is excited to announce a unique opportunity for a fully funded AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Partnership (CDP) studentship, commencing in October 2025. This opportunity focuses on the V&A East Storehouse, a £50 million facility opening in May 2025 at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Financial Package
This is a completely funded scholarship granted by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) through its esteemed CDP initiative, and the package consists of:
- Yearly Allowance: £20,780 (tax-exempt)
- Complete Tuition Fees: Provided for both domestic and international students
- Research Training & Support Grant: £1,250 allocated for travel and project-related expenses across 4 years.
- Extra CDP Maintenance Fee: £600 annually
KCL will pay the difference in tuition fees for international applicants, guaranteeing genuinely fair access for all qualified individuals.
Area of Research and Project Concentration
Primary Project Title: Investigating how dynamic methods for managing stored collections affect museum identity, user interaction, and collection administration.
You will analyze the development of museum storage for collections and investigate the implications of a transparent, adaptable access model for stored collections in museums such as the V&A. Research topics will encompass:
- Organizational identity and clarity in storage methods
- Community involvement with archived collections
- Reconceptualizing classic collections administration
- Ethics in museums, principles, and accessibility for the public
- Effects on museum personnel, varied audiences, and visitor experience
The study will integrate qualitative case studies and fieldwork at the new V&A East Storehouse, along with potentially other museum storage locations in the UK or abroad. You will receive supervision from academics at KCL and experienced professionals from the V&A and the University of Stirling, joining a lively, nationwide CDP research community. Eligibility Requirements
- Available for both Domestic and International applicants
- Must possess a Master’s degree in a pertinent field, including:
- Museum, Heritage or Art Gallery Studies
- Heritage Management
- Arts Management
- Anthropology OR
- Show comparable professional experience that includes research, analytical thinking, and input in public or policy debates.
- A Bachelor’s degree is required.
- Exhibit a deep enthusiasm for museums, cultural heritage, and research centered on users.
- Ready to invest time at both KCL (Strand Campus) and V&A East Storehouse.
- Dedicated to joint, cross-disciplinary investigation.
