What This Program Is Focused On
The PG Cert HE Practice is a professional development course tailored for university instructors who are actively engaged in teaching or facilitating learning. Certified by Advance HE, the certificate aids participants in enhancing their teaching methods via critical reflection, evidence-driven strategies, and workplace-integrated practice. Graduates who succeed attain Fellowship status (FHEA), a valued qualification in the global higher education field.
Individuals ineligible for the complete program may still enroll in Module 1 (PHE705) as an independent course and obtain an Associate Fellowship (AFHEA).
What It Provides
- Globally acknowledged Fellowship (FHEA or AFHEA)
- Three face-to-face, full-day sessions over 18 months (September 2025–January 2027)
- Sessions are led by experts every Wednesday throughout the semester.
- Hands-on experience through the direct application of theory in your personal teaching setting.
- Support and advice from knowledgeable teachers and Subject Advisors.
Eligibility Requirements
This chance is available to Ulster University employees (both academic and support personnel) who:
- Engage actively in teaching and facilitating learning in higher education.
- Can commit a minimum of 25 hours to practical teaching or support tasks for each module.
- Possess a contract that lasts until at least February 2026 for Module 1, or until February 2027 for the entire program.
If you don’t satisfy the criteria, Ulster provides a separate “First Steps to Teaching” course.

- PHE708 – Crafting a Modern Curriculum (Sep–Dec 2026)
- Create creative and accessible curricula that align with the objectives of the institution.

Date for Application Opening
The application period for the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Practice (2025–26 intake) is anticipated to begin in early July 2025 for a start in September 2025.
