Concerning the Junior Fellows Internship Program

The United Nations University Office of the Rector seeks highly qualified candidates for the position of Junior Fellows at the UNU headquarters in Tokyo. Junior Fellows are selected via a competitive application procedure biannually. Graduate students with an interest in the United Nations, specifically UNU, are invited to submit their applications.

The foundational concepts of the Junior Fellows Internship Program at the Office of the Rector focus on providing a dynamic, challenging, and fulfilling experience for graduate-level students and emerging professionals. Successful applicants will assist the Office of the Rector, the United Nations University, and the United Nations system collectively. The program offers chances for skill and knowledge development and serves as a distinctive and constructive environment for the actual application of competencies gained during graduate study.

This program prioritizes training, mentorship, and practical experience, which are essential for a successful and advantageous internship. The program commences with a one-week orientation aimed at acclimating junior fellows to UNU, their colleagues, facilities, and the operational procedures within the Office of the Rector. The acquired knowledge and practical experience will also benefit candidates pursuing a career in the United Nations. Junior fellows at the Office of the Rector will acquire significant work experience while making substantial contributions to UNU’s mission.
