There’s an exciting opportunity for you to apply for the 2026 Penn State–Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Doctoral Research Scholarship. This program allows up to five students to conduct collaborative research at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore over the summer of 2026.

This scholarship promotes international academic partnerships and offers a chance to immerse yourself in India’s vibrant tech scene. Participants will engage in meaningful research, learn from esteemed scholars, and use advanced facilities at IISc.

Eligible Requirements

Candidates who qualify must:

  • Currently enrolled doctoral students at Penn State who are in good academic standing.
  • Be dedicated to performing research and educational partnerships with IISc and/or pertinent industries in Bangalore.
  • Provide proof of collaborative academic planning between a faculty member from Penn State and one from IISc.

What is Needed in the Application?

All submissions must be made through InfoReady as a single PDF document, containing:

1: Cover Page

  • Complete name, nationality, PSU identification number, and email address.
  • Academic department and degree program
  • Location of the campus and preferred research dates

2: Statement of Purpose 

  • A maximum of two double-spaced pages.
  • Detail your educational objectives, teamwork engagements with IISc, research schedule, and anticipated results.

3: Support Letter from Faculty 

  • A letter of recommendation from your immediate faculty advisor at Penn State.
  • It must express the significance of this research residency and possibilities for collaborative research, publications, or conferences.

Application Timelines

  • The final deadline to submit applications for the Penn State–IISc Doctoral Research Scholarship 2026 is Monday, February 2, 2026.
  • Winners will be informed by Monday, February 9, 2026.

After approval: 

  • Students must register their trips with Penn State’s Global Safety Network.
  • Travel plans must adhere to the funder’s guidelines.
  • The $800 grant will be distributed through LionPath when it reaches IISc.

Furthermore, participants must provide a brief summary report within 30 days upon their return from India and could share their experiences at a Penn State Global event.
