Program Overview
Project Title: Transport and Chemical Transformation of City Plumes in Bremen
The PhD project explores the dynamics of air pollution in Bremen by examining significant pollutants such as ammonia, aerosols, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Its goal is to examine the influence of urban greenery, industrial outputs, and farming origins on the chemical alterations of urban plumes. The study will be carried out using sophisticated in-situ measurements and atmospheric simulations.
You will become part of a well-furnished institute that has active partnerships and provides access to advanced multi-gas analyzers and data from the BLUES monitoring network.
Responsibilities
- Establish and adjust a high-accuracy urban air monitoring facility.
- Examine the gathered information in conjunction with weather models and satellite data.
- Instruct for 2–3 hours weekly in undergraduate/graduate physics classes.
- Engage in active research, contribute to publications, and work on your doctoral thesis.
- Engage in university governance responsibilities.
Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must satisfy the subsequent criteria:
- A finished Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Physics or Atmospheric Sciences with a score above 2.0 (Germany) or a B grade (Anglo-Saxon system).
- Practical skills and a keen interest in atmospheric chemistry and physics.
- Skills in programming (ideally in Python and Labview).
- Proficient in English, in both written and spoken forms.
