Port to Fellowship Package Plan
The fellowship offers full-time work with a competitive salary at grade EG 13 TV-L (levels 1–4) on the German public sector wage scale, including social security and health insurance benefits. A hiring incentive matching two salary tiers may also be granted. Conversely, participants can choose a fellowship stipend of the same worth in place of an employment agreement.
Along with financial advantages, fellows will receive organized career development assistance, featuring mid-term and final evaluations, professional growth workshops, and exit strategy discussions. Researchers will obtain complete integration into RWTH’s interdisciplinary research network through the Center for Young Academics (CYA).
Eligibility Requirements
Applications are invited from researchers who fulfill the following criteria:
- Location: Applicants must be located outside the European Union at the time of applying (all nationalities accepted).
- Doctorate: Candidates must possess a PhD (granted within the past 4 years) or be nearing completion by February 28, 2026.
- Exclusions: Individuals who obtained their PhD from RWTH Aachen or are currently working at RWTH cannot be considered.
- Profile: Proven research experience, outstanding academic accomplishments, and eagerness to engage with RWTH’s research community.
RWTH specifically invites applications from women and individuals with varied backgrounds that can enhance the university’s scholarly environment.
How to Apply
Applicants must submit their documents, which include a motivation letter, research proposal, CV with a publication list, academic transcripts, and a letter of support from a host, through the RWTH Exploratory Research Space Portal.
Timeline for Application
The application portal will be available starting August 15, 2025, and will close on October 5, 2025. Results are in mid-November 2025, and accepted candidates must commence their fellowship by March 31, 2026, at the latest.
