Join a dynamic team of researchers working on important global issues and take this chance to advance your academic and professional career. Apply now to make a meaningful impact in biotechnology!

Program Summary

This PhD role focuses on the intricate bioproduction and downstream processing of important biomolecules known as siderophores, specifically Desferrioxamine B (DFOB), Desferrioxamine E (DFOE), and Bisucaberin (Bis). Siderophores are vital for metal ion transport in many organisms and have significant implications in various fields, including medicine and agriculture.

In this position, you will immerse yourself in cutting-edge research aimed at enhancing the production yields of these siderophores. This will involve working with both native organisms and genetically engineered strains to optimize their natural capabilities. Additionally, you will explore innovative cell-free systems that could potentially streamline production processes.

One of your key responsibilities will be to develop and refine scalable purification methods, especially focusing on two-phase aqueous extraction systems. By utilizing this technique, you aim to efficiently separate and purify the desired siderophores from complex mixtures, thereby improving the overall yield and quality of the final products. This research has the potential to contribute significantly to advancements in bioprocessing technologies and could pave the way for more sustainable production practices in the biopharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

Key Duties

  • Production and purification of different siderophores using advanced biotechnological techniques.
  • Creation of scalable downstream methods for siderophores.
  • Utilization of genetic manipulation, acellular methods, and bioreactor processes.
  • Participating in practical research within an interdisciplinary, global environment.
