1. Dieter Schumacher International PhD Scholarship

The Hans Böckler Foundation’s Dieter Schumacher PhD Scholarship program facilitates exceptional foreign Ph.D. candidates in Economics to undertake a 12-24 month residency at a German university or research institution. The scholarship program is available to PhD candidates who are under 30 years of age.

Ute and György Széll International PhD Scholarship

The Ute and György Széll foreign Scholarship will allow exceptional foreign Ph.D. candidates in Social Sciences and Humanities to spend six months at a German university, research institute, foundation, or archive. There is no age restriction.

Dieter Schumacher International PhD Scholarship

  • We invite applications from individuals performing research on fiscal and monetary policy, labor markets, income distribution, financial markets, or other employee-relevant disciplines.
  • Applicants are anticipated to be politically, culturally, and socially involved, demonstrating a keen interest in the fundamental ideals of the Hans Böckler Foundation.
  • The scholarship provides a monthly stipend of EUR 1550 for living expenses and an annual grant of EUR 1400 for travel expenditures. Applications are available for scholarships of 12 or 24 months duration.

  • A three-page explanation of your PhD project.
  • A research paper detailing the subject, inquiries, technique, and objectives of your research in Germany (3 pages)
  • A letter of invitation from your host PhD supervisor in Germany, who oversees on-site assistance and integration into the local and national research environments in Germany.
  • A recommendation letter from your PhD advisor at your home university
  • Your curriculum vitae presented in tabular format
  • The diploma that qualifies you for doctoral studies

2. Ute and György Széll International PhD Scholarship

The Ute and György Széll foreign Scholarship will allow exceptional foreign Ph.D. candidates in Social Sciences and Humanities to undertake a six-month residency at a German institution, research institute, foundation, or archive. There is no age restriction.

We anticipate that applicants will be politically, culturally, and socially involved, demonstrating a keen interest in the fundamental ideals of the Hans Böckler Foundation.

The scholarship provides a monthly stipend of EUR 1450 for living expenses and an annual grant of EUR 1300 for travel expenditures.

Prerequisites

  • Admission to a PhD program in Social Sciences or Humanities
  • A detailed account of your dissertation project presented as a research plan (3 pages), encompassing the context of your subsequent career progression.
  • A research paper detailing the subject, inquiries, technique, and objectives of your study in Germany. Three pages
  • A letter of invitation from your PhD supervisor in Germany, who is accountable for providing on-site assistance and facilitating integration into the local and national research environments in Germany.
  • An evaluation conducted by the PhD supervisor at your home university
  • Your curriculum vitae presented in tabular format
  • The diploma that qualifies you to pursue a PhD
