Overview of the Humboldt Fellowship for Experienced Researchers

This fellowship aids global scientists and scholars across various fields who earned their doctorates in the past 12 years. It enables them to perform autonomous research alongside a German host institution for a duration of 6 to 18 months.

Researchers from all countries (excluding Brazil) can apply and are required to present a robust research profile — generally at the assistant professor level or as a junior research group leader — or provide evidence of independent research conducted over multiple years.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Researchers from around the world, representing various fields and nationalities (excluding Brazil).
  • PhD achieved in the past 12 years.
  • Robust publication history in globally acknowledged journals or by publishers.
  • Verified academic host in Germany with a comprehensive invitation letter.
  • A minimum of 12 months spent abroad in the 18 months preceding the application.
  • Fluency in German or English, based on the area of expertise.
  • Candidates holding German citizenship qualify only if they have lived and worked outside the country for a minimum of 5 years.
