About Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine (SJTUSM)
Shanghai Second Medical College was the previous name of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine (SJTUSM). When two schools merged, it was formed. In 1952, there was a significant shift in higher education, including the establishment of John’s University School of Medicine (1896–1952), Aurora University School of Medicine (1911–1952), and Tongde Medical College (1918–1952). It changed its name to Shanghai Second Medical University in 1985. Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Shanghai Second Medical University merged in July 2005 to become Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, a new and significant medical institution. The Shanghai municipal administration and the Ministry of Education work jointly to manage this institution.
Twelve hospitals and twenty-five high schools are affiliated with SJTUSM. Four major disciplines are eligible to provide postdoctoral programs, while eight major subjects are permitted to award doctorate degrees. Biology, basic medicine, clinical medicine, and stomatology are some of these topics. SJTUSM has eight undergraduate programs, an eight-year program for a doctorate in clinical medicine, and an eight-year program for a doctorate in stomatology (dentistry).
