The Hong Kong China PhD Fellowship Scheme for the academic year 2025-2026 is currently accepting applications from international students. The fellowship provides full funding for successful applicants for PhD programs in any subject taught at Chinese universities. The scholarship application must be submitted by 01 December 2024.

The Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong is delighted to declare the 2025/26 Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS), a distinguished initiative initiated in 2009. This program aims to attract exceptionally skilled and prospective candidates from around the world to pursue their doctoral studies at Hong Kong’s top universities.

  • The Hong Kong China PhD Fellowship Scheme 2025/2026 is a fully funded opportunity for individuals to pursue PhD level programs in universities in China.

Benefits of the Hong Kong China PhD Fellowship:

  • The stipend amount is HK$337,200 per year, which is approximately equivalent to US$43,230.
  • The travel allowance provided is HK$14,000, which is equivalent to around US$1,790 per year. This allowance is specifically designated for attending conferences and conducting research.
  • Timeframe: A maximum of three years
  • A total of 400 PhD Fellowships will be awarded for the academic year 2025/26. PhD students who require more than three years to finish their studies may be eligible for further support from the university they choose. Kindly contact the university directly.

Nationalities eligible for the Hong Kong China PhD Fellowship:

  • This grant is available to students from any country.

Requirements for Hong Kong China PhD Fellowship:

Eligibility to apply for admission as new full-time PhD students is open to candidates from any country, regardless of their prior job experience and ethnic background, in the following eight universities.

  • City University of Hong Kong
  • Hong Kong Baptist University
  • Lingnan University
  • The Chinese University of Hong Kong
  • Education University of Hong Kong
  • The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
  • The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
  • University of Hong Kong

Applicants must exhibit exceptional academic achievement, research aptitude/potential, effective communication and interpersonal abilities, and strong leadership skills.

Criteria for selection

Although candidates’ academic achievement is the main focus, the Selection Panels will also evaluate the following factors:

  • The criteria for evaluating a candidate’s qualifications are as follows: academic excellence, research aptitude and potential, effective communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership capabilities.

Procedure for Applying to the Hong Kong China PhD Fellowship:

Step 1: Submit the initial application.

  • Applications will be accepted starting from 1 September 2024 at 12:00 PM. Hong Kong
  • Time Due date: 1 December 2024, 12:00 PM Hong Kong Chronological duration
  • Submit your application electronically using the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme Electronic System (HKPFSES).
  • Acquire: HKPFS Reference Number

  • Select: A maximum of two programs/departments at one or two universities.
