Are you a researcher, scientist, or expert in international collaboration looking to enhance your academic experience in China? The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Alliance of National and International Science Organizations (ANSO) are currently inviting applications for the CAS-ANSO Fellowship Program for the Fall 2025 intake. This program offers substantial funding and unique short-term research opportunities within CAS institutions.

Fellowship Summary

To promote the UN Decade of Sustainable Development, the CAS-ANSO Fellowship seeks to:

  • Enhance worldwide and local scientific competencies.
  • Encourage global research partnerships.
  • Establish enduring partnerships among Belt and Road nations and others.

This chance is available for non-Chinese mainland researchers and collaboration specialists aiming for joint efforts with China’s leading scientific organizations.

Three (03) ANSO Fellowship Types Offered for 2025 Intake

ANSO Partnership Fellowship

  • Eligibility: Senior researchers and management personnel from global science and educational organizations. Priority is extended to ANSO member organizations.
  • Timeframe: 1–2 weeks
  • Allowance: RMB 10,000 weekly (before tax) + a one-time round-trip travel allowance.

ANSO Fellowships for Visiting Scientists

  • Eligibility: Assistant professors (including postdoctoral researchers), associate professors, full professors, or practitioners in similar disciplines.
  • Timeframe: 1–6 months
  • Allowance:
    • Assistant Professors/Postdocs: RMB 15,000 per month plus a one-time travel subsidy for round trips.
    • Associate Professors: RMB 25,000 per month + one-time round-trip travel allowance.
    • Full Professors: RMB 35,000/month plus a one-time round-trip travel allowance.

CAS-ANSO Graduates Fellowship

  • Eligible Applicants: Graduates of the CAS-TWAS Scholarship, CAS Belt and Road Master’s Fellowship, or CAS-ANSO Scholarship currently employed in science and technology sectors within Belt and Road areas.
  • Length of time: 1–2 weeks
  • Allowance: RMB 10,000 per week (before tax) + round-trip travel reimbursement.

Required Documents

Required documents consist of a filled-out application form (Attachment 1), a recent color passport-sized photo, and a scanned copy of the passport’s information page. A letter of recommendation from a CAS host researcher is crucial, in addition to a comprehensive research or collaboration plan that includes the background, goals, timeline, and anticipated results of the proposed visit. Moreover, candidates applying in the Alumni Fellowship category are required to provide their degree and evidence of a previous scholarship received from eligible CAS programs.

How to Apply for CAS-ANSO Fellowship 2025

To apply for the CAS-ANSO Fellowship for the Fall 2025 Intake, applicants need to adhere to a defined procedure and submit all necessary documents correctly and punctually.

The application process starts with the applicant obtaining a host researcher at a CAS-associated institution who consents to endorse their application. After confirmation, the applicant needs to collect all necessary documents and deliver the complete application set to the host researcher, who will handle the final submission via official channels. Candidates should not submit their documents directly to the ANSO Secretariat.

After submission, all applications will be evaluated by experts from May to June 2025, and results will be shared via the relevant host researchers. Candidates should be aware that all activities related to the fellowship must be finalized by December 31, 2026.
