Study in Canada | University of Winnipeg Scholarships 2026/2027

Imagine studying in Canada with a scholarship that covers everything from tuition to your plane ticket. The University of Winnipeg has opened applications for its 2026-27 scholarship cycle, and two awards in particular deserve your attention if you are an international student planning to study in Canada. The President’s Scholarship for World Leaders offers a $5,000 award across multiple divisions, while the Wu Chung Scholarship goes several steps further. This second award covers virtually every cost of a four year undergraduate degree, from tuition down to your airfare to Winnipeg.

Whether you are finishing high school in Nairobi, Dhaka, Manila, or anywhere else outside Canada, these scholarships make a University of Winnipeg education genuinely affordable. Here is exactly what each one offers, who qualifies, and how to apply before the deadlines close.

The Financial Packages: What You Receive

These awards go far beyond token discounts. Here is what each scholarship puts on the table.

President’s Scholarship for World Leaders

  • Award Value: You receive $5,000 as a one time financial award.
  • Eligible Divisions: The scholarship welcomes students entering Undergraduate, Graduate, Collegiate, or PACE divisions.
  • Number of Awards: The university distributes 15 total awards. This breaks down to 6 for Undergraduate, 3 for Graduate, 3 for Collegiate, and 3 for PACE applicants.

Wu Chung Scholarship

  • Full Ride Coverage: This scholarship covers full tuition and fees for up to four years. This includes up to 30 credit hours in Fall and Winter and 9 credit hours in Spring.
  • Textbooks and Supplies: The award includes your textbooks and course supplies, removing another major expense.
  • Accommodation and Meals: You receive on campus housing with a monthly meal plan included.
  • Travel Reimbursement: The scholarship provides up to $2,500 to cover your air travel to Winnipeg. This means your journey to Canada comes at no cost to you.

Eligibility: Who Qualifies

Each scholarship has specific requirements. You need to meet every item, not most of them, before applying.

President’s Scholarship for World Leaders

  • First Program: You must be an international student entering your first program at the University of Winnipeg. This includes Undergraduate, Graduate, Collegiate, or PACE divisions.
  • Academic Standing: You need the equivalent of a Canadian 80 percent grade average based on Grade 12 academic courses used for admission. UWinnipeg’s credential evaluators handle the conversion for international transcripts.
  • PACE Applicants: PACE applicants undergo assessment based on post secondary transcripts rather than high school grades.
  • Leadership Qualities: You must demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities beyond your academics. Your application should showcase this clearly.
  • Complete Admission: Your admission application must be complete with fees paid and all documents received by the scholarship deadline. Incomplete packages face automatic disqualification.
  • Full Time Load: You must register for and maintain a full time course load throughout your studies.

Wu Chung Scholarship

  • Geographic Focus: You must be a resident of Huadu in Guangzhou or Hong Kong, China. This scholarship targets applicants from these specific regions.
  • Academic Requirements: You must meet all academic and English language proficiency requirements for international admission to UWinnipeg. You must also qualify for a valid Canadian study permit.
  • No Prior Study: You must not have studied at any other post secondary institution previously. This scholarship supports first time university students.
  • Grade Minimum: You need a minimum 70 percent grade average from qualifying Level 3 high school courses. The process remains competitive, so higher averages create stronger applications.
  • Finally, Leadership and Impact: You must provide evidence of exceptional leadership qualities and demonstrate potential for community impact after graduation. Your future plans matter here.

Your Application Roadmap

Applying for the President’s Scholarship for World Leaders follows a two track process that runs parallel to your admission application.

Start by applying for admission to the University of Winnipeg. This step gives you your UWinnipeg student number. Without this number, the scholarship office will not review your application. Once you have that student number, complete the separate online scholarship application form. Also, attach your required documents, including a personal statement explaining your goals and leadership experience, a current resume or CV, and two reference letters. Any document originally in another language must include an English translation. One critical rule stands out: each applicant gets only one submission per cycle, so make your application count.
