Scholarships for Interpreting Programs at RMIT University
The Victorian Government, in collaboration with RMIT University, is providing scholarships for the subsequent interpreting courses commencing in 2025:
Diploma in Interpreting
The Victorian Government is providing scholarships to qualified students admitted into the 2025 Diploma of Interpreting program at RMIT University for the study of interpreting in the following languages: Burmese, Dari, Dinka, Punjabi, Portuguese, Samoan, S’gaw Karen, Somali, Russian, and Urdu.
The scholarship is for a one-year, full-time Diploma of Interpreting program, commencing in February 2025 and concluding in November 2025.
The majority of course activities are conducted online, supplemented by occasional in-person meetings at RMIT University’s City Campus.
Amount of scholarship
A scholarship of up to $6,000 will be granted to fully pay the program costs and the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) for students in government-subsidized positions. Students will be responsible for covering the deficit at other fee locations. The precise amount will vary based on each student’s enrollment status.
Scholarships will be disbursed directly to RMIT University on the student’s behalf.
Advanced Diploma in Interpreting
The Victorian Government is providing scholarships to students admitted to the 2025 Advanced Diploma in Interpreting program at RMIT University for the study of interpreting in Arabic, Greek, Italian, Persian, Spanish, or Vietnamese.
The scholarship is for pursuing an Advanced Diploma in Interpreting, a one-year, full-time program commencing in February 2025 and concluding in November 2025.

Overview of Interpreting Competencies
The Victorian Government is providing a scholarship for eligible students accepted into the 2025 Introduction to Interpreting Skill Set at RMIT University to study interpreting in one of the following languages: Albanian, Bangla, Bislama, Chichewa, Gujarati, Hakha Chin, Hakka Chinese, Hazaragi, Hmong, Kayah (Karenni), Khmer, Kirundi, Kurdish Kurmanji, Lingala, Macedonian, Malay, Maltese, Nepali, Nuer, Pashto, Rohingya, Ukrainian, Sinhalese, and Swahili.
The Introduction to Interpreting Skill Set is a foundational course designed for individuals seeking to acquire essential interpreting abilities and fundamental industry knowledge.
The course has four modules:
- Create glossaries for translation and interpretation tasks (PSPTIS103)
- Prepare for translation and interpretation (PSPTIS104)
- Implement codes and standards in ethical practice (PSPTIS102)
- Oversee interactions within broad settings (PSPTIS114).
Classes will be conducted exclusively online. They may occur during the day or evening.
Amount of scholarship
RMIT University will grant a scholarship of up to $2,315 to fully cover the program fees, along with the annual student services and amenities fee (SSAF). The university will disburse the scholarships directly on the student’s behalf.
These courses aim to educate bilingual individuals with professional interpreting skills and prepare them for certification by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI).
