This award is open to both domestic and international students who:

  • Firstly, possess an unconditional PhD offer from the Faculty of Engineering.
  • Secondly, hold a first-class honors degree, its equivalent, or a master’s degree with significant research in materials engineering, mechanical engineering, or physics.
  • Thirdly, engaged in the investigation of hydrogen embrittlement-tolerant alloys under the supervision of Dr. Yi Sheng (Eason) Chen.

Application Process

Criteria for Selection

The successful candidate will get the scholarship based on:

  5. personal statement reflecting interest in the research project.

Interview.

Preference will be accorded to those with a minimum overall undergraduate score of 80 (on a scale of 100 with a passing grade of 50) or its equal.

Leave Provisions

Scholarship recipients are entitled to a maximum of 20 working days of recreational leave annually, which may be accumulated. All unused leave will be forfeited upon the termination or completion of the scholarship. Recreational leave does not incur a leave loading. Approval from the supervisor is required before taking leave.

Scholarship recipients are permitted to take a maximum of 10 working days of sick leave within each 12 months of the scholarship, which may be accumulated over the duration of the scholarship.

After recipients of the scholarship have fulfilled twelve months of their award, they are eligible for a maximum of twelve weeks of paid parental leave during the duration of the scholarship. Students seeking paid parental leave must submit their applications a minimum of four weeks before the start date of the leave.

Paid parental leave periods are included in the scholarship length. Scholarship recipients who have not fulfilled twelve months of their award may utilize unpaid parental leave via the suspension conditions. Applicants for parental leave must submit at least one of the following documents:

  1. correspondence from a medical practitioner concerning pregnancy,
  2.  A surrogacy contract;
  3. Child’s birth certificate
  4.  Adoption paperwork,
  5. documentation supporting the application.
