Study in Australia | University of Canberra Research Scholarships 2026
For high-achieving international students with aspirations of pursuing a fully funded research degree in Australia, the University of Canberra (UC) has announced a remarkable opportunity for those looking to start in Spring 2026. This initiative stands out as one of the most prestigious and competitive scholarship options available in the nation!
Every year, UC awards a limited number of University Research Scholarships designed to support exceptional researchers who are on the path to earning a Higher Degree by Research (HDR), such as a Doctorate (PhD). These scholarships are fiercely competitive, with fewer than 10% of applicants receiving funding in the previous selection cycle.
Prospective candidates are evaluated based on rigorous selection criteria that include outstanding academic performance, the strategic relevance of their proposed research, the overall quality and innovation of their research proposals, and previous research experience, which may encompass published work and other forms of scholarly contributions. This opportunity not only provides financial support but also fosters a vibrant research community at UC, where talented individuals can thrive and make significant contributions to their fields.
Scholarships Offered
The following are the primary scholarship categories available for application:
- Scholarships for the Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend
- HDR Stipend Scholarships at the University of Canberra (available to domestic and international students)
- Scholarships co-funded by industry (for initiatives that align with UC’s sustainability themes)
- Scholarships Managed by Faculty (available on each faculty’s site).
Benefits of Scholarships
The University of Canberra Research Scholarships provide a substantial yearly stipend of AUD 36,225 (tax-free, according to the 2025 rate) to assist with living costs for full-time PhD students. Along with the stipend, international students might receive a tuition fee sponsorship to pay for their educational expenses.
The scholarship is available for 3.5 years. Importantly, for candidates cleared to start their research overseas, stipend payments will begin upon their arrival at the University of Canberra’s Bruce campus, with the total amount reimbursed from the approved start date.
