Terms and conditions

1. Qualification
- The University of Sydney Scholars Awards are given to students who have achieved outstanding results in the NSW Higher School Certificate Examination (ATAR 95 to 99.85) or its equivalent and meet the following criteria:
- You are either a domestic student or an onshore foreign student;
- Submit an application for an undergraduate degree at the University of Sydney through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) during the same year they complete the New South Wales Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) or its equivalent.
- Submit an application for the scholarship using the University’s approved system in the same year that you finish your HSC or an equivalent qualification.
- having attained the minimal ATAR specified by the University of Sydney at the time the scholarship is offered; and
The individual will register for an undergraduate program or pursue a combined undergraduate degree immediately after finishing the HSC or its equivalent (with the possibility of delay as outlined in Clause 3c).
2. Criteria for selection
- The Scholarship shall be granted on the basis of:
- scholarly excellence, and
- Statement of Purpose for Scholarship Application
- The Scholarship shall be granted by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) based on the suggestion of a committee comprising different Faculty Deans or their appointed representatives.
3. Value
- The Scholarship is worth $6,000 and can be used for the recipient’s first year of their undergraduate degree or dual undergraduate degree (approved program).
- The Scholarship will be disbursed in two equal installments following the census date of each semester.
- The start of the Scholarship can be postponed for a maximum of two years. Prior authorization from the Scholarships Office is required in order to defer the Scholarship.
- The Scholarship can be transferred to another undergraduate degree program at the University of Sydney. One must request approval from the Scholarships Office in order to transfer the award.
- The scholarship winner is required to be enrolled full-time in the approved program for the duration of their award. Recipients of the scholarship may be allowed to pursue it on a part-time basis if they have extenuating circumstances, such as a medical condition that hinders their ability to engage in full-time education. To be considered for a part-time scholarship, an application must be submitted to the Scholarships Office. If a part-time scholarship is granted, the payment will be half of the regular semester payment amount.
- The Scholarship may be temporarily halted in exceptional circumstances. Suspension approval is granted on an individual basis through the submission of an application to the Scholarships Office.
- No additional payment is required.
4. Continual qualification
- The Scholarship will be disbursed in two installments. In order to earn the second installment of the Scholarship, the winner is required to maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 75. The Scholarship is not eligible for extension or renewal.
- Recipients who participate in an exchange program while holding this Scholarship must have obtained a grade of Satisfied Requirements (SR) in order to earn their next payment.
5. Termination
- The Scholarship will be discontinued if the recipient:
- If a student chooses to drop a qualifying course or fails to register for it,
- If the individual begins studying at another Higher Education institution before receiving this scholarship
- Begins part-time studies without previous authorization,
- fails to meet the required academic standards as specified in Clause 4,
- If the University finds that an individual has engaged in substantial misconduct, such as providing false or misleading information in their Scholarship application, they will be deemed guilty.
- fails to return to studying after the conclusion of an authorized leave of absence.
- Any other provision specified in these terms that would result in termination.
- The Scholarship will not be renewed unless there is a University error after it has been terminated.
- If a student is determined to have committed substantial misbehavior or if the Scholarship is terminated according to the Termination Clause in these terms and conditions, the University has the right to ask the Scholarship winner to repay any Scholarship payments that have been disbursed.
