Scholarship Benefits
The Maxwell King Scholarship (MKS) provides:
- $52,352 annually (2025 rate) as a living stipend (allowance)
- Funding for your scholarly expenditures
- Moving expense reimbursement, if relevant.
- Granted to 2 students annually:
- 1 from Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS)
- 1 from STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
Eligibility Requirements
Regardless of whether you’re in Australia or on the other side of the globe, you qualify! You need to be:
- A student from abroad, OR
- A citizen of Australia or New Zealand, a permanent resident, or holder of a humanitarian visa.
And you must:
- Apply for a scholarship this year.
- Fulfill the competitive scholarship selection requirements of Monash.
- Meet English language proficiency standards.
- Lastly, submit an application for a PhD or a Joint Research Grant (with Monash as the primary institution).
Selection Criteria
Monash awards this scholarship selectively; it is a highly sought-after award, granted based on your academic history, previous research experience, and any research outputs (e.g., publications, theses, etc.).
How to Apply
Submitting your application is straightforward. There is no need to submit a separate application for the MKS. Simply apply for a graduate research degree at Monash and you will be automatically considered for all applicable research scholarships, such as the MKS.
Important: The MKS is awarded exclusively in the round on 31 October. If you have previously applied in an earlier round (Rounds 1–4), you will continue to be automatically assessed.
