    Job Description

    The Social and Behavior Change (SBC) Capacity Strengthening Specialist will support the provision of technical assistance and training support to Ghana Health Service Health Promotion Division, sub-awardee grantees, partner organizations and other entities in an array of technical areas including SBC technical competencies, organizational development, monitoring and evaluation, financial management and grant compliance, USG government regulation and agreement adherence, and a variety of health issues (maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH); family planning (FP); nutrition; water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH); malaria prevention, control and case management). 

    He/she will take a lead in assisting grantee partners in carrying out the activity scope outlined in their approved agreement. 

    Work will commence with technical and organizational assessments and subsequent development of a tailored TA and support plan alignment to results of the assessment and proposed needs as defined both by the partner and USAID.

    The SBC Capacity Strengthening Specialist will work under the oversight of the Organizational Development and Capacity Strengthening Advisor.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Support the design, delivery and monitoring of technical assistance provided toward strengthening technical, organizational, managerial, financial, compliance and systems and mutually identified needs for project partners and collaborating organizations in social marketing and behavioral change communication.
    • Assist in the assessment of technical and organizational systems of and develop technical assistance plans for the selected individuals and partners
    • Source and manage technical assistance providers to respond to requests in a timely and efficient manner
    • Ensure that the team’s efforts are coordinated and conducted in accordance with the technical assistance plan
    • Guide and monitor implementation of  activities to achieve the goals of the project, ensuring that required inputs are in place on time
    • Report on progress made against technical assistance plans as requested
    • Represent the project on relevant working groups.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • University degree (Master’s preferred) or its international equivalent in organizational development, social and behavioral change, public health or a related field;
    • At least 5 years of experience in public health, including at least four years of experience in working with the Ghana public health context
    • At least five years of experience in a position managing the delivery or organizational development and/or social and behavior change projects or programs
    • Strong understanding and previous experience working with, advising and providing technical assistance to the Ghana Health Service
    • Demonstrated strong technical, programming and management skills
    • Proven ability to work as an effective team member
    • Excellent oral/written communication skills in English and one or more additional  languages a plus
    • Demonstrated interpersonal and negotiation skills and experience working in collaboration with partners, donors and NGOs
    • Ability to set priorities while multi-tasking, and meet deadlines
