SECRET ABOUT THE NEW 2200 UNIT HOUSING ESTATE IN RWANDA
The president of Rwanda, Paul Kagame has inaugurated 2200 environmentally friendly and fully furnished housing units in Kigali. The development comes on the back of an agreement between the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and ADHI Corporate Group.
The AFHI Corporate Group is a construction company that is situated in Gabon and has been in existence for more than 10 years.
At the construction site in Kigali, there were five sets of houses that have been completed and were used as a showcase for the various dignitaries that were present at the inauguration ceremony.
The ADHI construction company will build more than 2400 housing units in the country’s capital through 5 phases. The first phase will see the completion of 252 units before the end of 2022.
At the inauguration, the head of state of Rwanda Paul Kagame stated that the launch of the Bwiza Riverside Homes is just the start and pointed out that more needed to be done to see significant progress.
The constructor for the building revealed that the purchasing power of a housing unit cost between Rwf16 million and Rwf35 million depending on the size and features. The building of the homes will be in three categories: two categories will be twin houses- one will have two rooms while the other has three-room, the third category is a separate three-bedroom unit with a parking space.
GREEN TECHNOLOGY
The constructors of the building have already revealed they would use eco-friendly materials and construction methods. The buildings will be green certified and will be built with materials that reduce the emission of carbon from the buildings. This can be done by reducing construction waste, efficient energy, and using recyclable construction materials.
Also, they will minimize transport by using the pre-engineered house structure, solar-powered street lighting, wastewater treatment and recycling systems, permeable pavements, and stormwater management systems, among others.
TRANSFERABLE SKILLS
120 Rwandan students are being trained for Innovative and Sustainable light steel frame construction by the institute established by the ADHI Corporate Group. According to the General Manager of the group, the students under training are being trained to become competent and skilled workers when employed in the future.
FUTURE PLANS
Last but not least, the construction going on in Kigali, will be implemented across the country. It is expected that by 2026, there will be over 8000 housing units. Also, by 2033, there would have been over 40,000 homes of which 70 percent will be affordable homes in Rwanda.
