The National Democratic Congress would hold her Party hierarchy positions in next year, 2022 and as directed earlier by the General Secretary, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the Party has commenced its reorganization process towards the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
In the bid to fully prepare to face off with other political parties especially the New Patriotic Party in 2024, the NDC would elect her leaders at the Branch, Constituency, Regional and National levels to fully form the Party structure.
In view of these internal primaries, many of her members who are in good standings have began warming up and lacing their boots to contest various positions in the Party. One of such personalities who have armed herself with party organization experience is Rita Akosua Awatey.
Mrs. Awatey is a young and affable woman who hail from Bornya clan, Adjikpo of Yilo Krobo and have achieved a lot in the shortest space, both in political and corporate life.
Educational Background
Mrs. Awatey has her training from the Presbyterian Training College, now Presbyterian University College of Education, Akropong.
She had her Diploma in Consumer Studies from Ghana’s premier University, University of Ghana, Legon and continued to pursue her First Degree(BA Political Science) from the same University.
As a respected young woman who understands education and values its impact on society, Mrs. Awatey enrolled in the University of Professional Studies, Accra where she obtained an MPhil in Leadership and Governance. As if that is not enough, the Deputy Regional Women Organizer hopeful is currently undertaking a program with the London School of Law and Economics.
Working Life
As a trained teacher, Mrs. Awatey has taught in many Basic and Senior High Schools including Yilo Krobo Senior High School, Somanya. Currently, she is the Director of LARIT ROYALS school, Somanya and the Executive Director of Africa Women’s Forum, Ghana.
Political Life
The Women Organizer hopeful was a two terms Presiding Member(PM) of the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly, the only female to have occupied such position in the history of the Municipality.
She was also a two terms women caucus representative of National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana, NALAG.
As a staunch member of the National Democratic Congress for more than two decades, she served as a copted member of the NDC in Yilo Krobo Constituency from 2008 to 2018 before she was then elected as the Constituency Women Organizer.
From 2008, the women organizer who is humility personified served on almost all the Election campaign teams. She was not only an organizing expert but a communicator too as she is one of the leading women who speaks in almost all constituency meeting platforms which has offered her to be well known and recognized in all nooks and crannies of the Krobo Land and beyond.
She has over the years, been projecting the Party through various mediums including radio programs with the communication team of the constituency.
As a women organizer who is always seen working with her able Deputy have over the years, been engaging many women on various platforms both in smaller and bigger groups for party activities.
The former presiding member does not only seen herself as a leader but as a servant of the party as well. In portraying and parading her servant leadership, she is often seen on various communities especially in campaigning and electioneering period pasting posters and hoisting flags and banners of the Party and Candidates.
In the lead up to 2020 election, she brought on board ‘Branded Young NDC ladies club, a group made from young ladies from most Tertiary institutions and other training outfits to the 2020 campaign team.
In their bid to continue to make the Yilo Krobo a traditional seat for the NDC, she was instrumental in the campaign team that engaged many groupings including apprentice associations, market women, truck pushers mechanics including ‘Ghettos’ in the Yilo Krobo Constituency and neighboring Constituencies during the recent election.
Rita Akosua is a team player, very active, eloquent, versatile, hardworking and above all, easy to go woman.
The women organizer hopeful, delight herself in supporting the youth of the party to the best of her strength and associate herself with the youth.
Considering the vast experience she had over the years in grassroot politics and what she has achieved, it is evident that she has armed herself with experience for a more higher position in the NDC and hence would offer herself as the next Deputy Eastern Regional Women Organizer.
She is a product of Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) and Women in Broadcasting (WIB) training programme organized for women in politics where she obtained a certificate in 2021. Women In Politics Training (WIPT) Programme is an initiative of ABANTU for Development.
Having served the party for about two decades of which she demonstrated excellence and the drive to get things done properly, the people of Eastern Region would be pleased with her rich experience in mobilization and communication.
