Residential Coordinator at Design & Technology Institute (DTI)

Job Purpose

  • Nurture and protect the social and educational development of learners in the Institute’s Hostels so that students are healthy, safe, supported, and safe from abuse so that they can reach their full potential and make great progress in their vocational goals.
  • The Hostel Facilitator is a key part of running the Hostels and the activities connected to pastoral care that happen there and are aimed at helping its students achieve the purpose and vision of the Institute.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Check in students and put them in rooms that are right for their ages.
  • Help new students get used to how things work at the Hostel.
  • Help with and take part in the new student orientation programs.
  • Plan and oversee getting ready, games, Christian services held in the facility, entertainment, visiting times, and trips or outings.
  • Report all upkeep problems.
  • Keep designated hotels and their surroundings in good shape and make sure they are clean.
  • Issue supplies to kids.
  • Keep a list of what’s in the hostel and take care of school property that’s been given to the hostel.
  • Know the Institute’s rules and regulations (especially those about the dorms) and other related policies in order to keep order.
  • Take care of students’ general health problems, like making sure the sick get the food and care they need, in agreement with the Matron and the School Nurse.
  • Check on the hostel every day, every week, and every month, with the help of the Dean of Students.
  • Follow the daily schedule for students that was set up by the Institute’s leaders.

Pastoral Care

  • Make sure the kids are happy by creating a nice, friendly environment.
  • Communicate with the parents or guardians of the students in his or her dorms and keep good, cooperative, and mutually beneficial relationships with them.
  • Get to know each student in his or her hostel as a person, keep an eye on how he or she is adjusting to hostel life and schoolwork, and look for ways to help and guide those who are having trouble.
  • Talk with the clinical psychologist and the Dean of Students about students who need or are getting help with lessons, and check on their progress.
  • Tell the Institute’s leaders when a student is having trouble.
  • Help, scold, and tell kids when they do something wrong.
  • Help students build leadership skills by showing them how to do it and giving them ways to take charge of some part of hostel life, no matter how small.
  • Hold regular meetings with the students in their dorms and other small groups, especially on Sunday evenings, to talk about their well-being and other issues connected to the dorms. At these meetings, you should also talk about any big problems that come up.

Taking care of business

  • Give the right Medical Forms and Outing/Exit slips to kids when they are needed.
  • Keep a Visitors Book, a Health Register, and a Booklet for Outings and Exits.
  • Tell the Dean of Students/Facilities Manager what you need for supplies and repair every week, month, or term.
  • Three weeks before the end of each term, write a report on each student for the hostel.
  • Give a report on the hostels at the end of the year.
  • Do what you’re told to do at the end of the year.
  • Do any other tasks that are given to you.

Needed Qualifications and Experience

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree, ideally in the Social Sciences, in any field of study.
  • At least five to ten years of experience in a similar job.

Must be knowledgeable in

  • Taking care of people
  • Mediating
  • Counseling

Skills

  • Knows how to talk to people;
  • Pays attention; • Listens well;
  • Works well with others;

Being able to

  • Patient
  • Aware of the unique needs of teenagers and young people
  • Nurture
