About The Scholarship

This entirely government-funded scholarship seeks to assist financially disadvantaged students enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s, or Higher Professional Technical Courses (CTESP) at public and private higher education institutions in Portugal. Scholarships encompass the entire academic year, are distributed in 10 monthly payments, and aim to alleviate tuition, living, and educational costs.

International candidates are urged to submit separate applications for PhD-level studies through the FCT (Foundation for Science and Technology) Scholarships.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Students (domestic and international) registered in Portuguese public or private higher education institutions.
  • Should be enrolled in a minimum of 30 ECTS credits.
  • Must not possess a degree that is equivalent to or greater than the one for which they are applying.

Required to meet income limits: 

  • Yearly household earnings below €11,049.89
  • Assets that can be moved under €115,303.20

Students who work and individuals with fluctuating income might be eligible for special allowances. Refugees from Syria and Afghanistan, along with students under temporary protection from Ukraine, may obtain a maximum grant of €5,981.73, regardless of whether they meet minimum income thresholds.

Timeline for Application 

Submission of applications for the Portuguese Government Higher Education Scholarship for the 2025–2026 academic year is from June 25 to September 30, 2025. If enrolling after September 30, students have 20 working days from their registration date to apply. Those starting a professional internship must also apply within 20 working days after receiving proof of the internship’s start date. Submit applications from October 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026, but there will be an adjustment in scholarship amount based on the remaining months. Students completing their bachelor’s degree this year and starting a master’s program next year should apply by September 30 or within 20 working days after late registration.
