POSITION: Accountant and Finance Manager (Mid to Senior Level)
Key Responsibilities
Ensure full compliance with tax laws.
- Oversee the proper and timely submission of all tax returns and reports, including corporate taxes, PAYE, and withholding taxes.
- Regularly communicate with tax authorities to resolve problems and maintain smooth compliance procedures.
- Implement tax-saving strategies while strictly following applicable legislation.
Prepare operational and regulatory pension schemes’ financial reports.
- Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of the scheme’s financial statements.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly and quarterly scheme operational reports for the regulator, NPRA.
- Collaborate with auditors and regulatory agencies to fulfill compliance deadlines.
- Respond to regulator input promptly and take any necessary corrective measures.
Prepare a Corporate Annual Financial Report:
- Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of yearly financial accounts for audit.
- Assist auditors with the essential supporting papers and information during the auditing process.
- Coordinate year-end closing activities.
- Present Annual Financial Reports to the Board of Directors.
Maintain strong internal accounting controlsÂ
- Enforcing policies and procedures to ensure robust internal controls.
- Perform periodic assessments and audits to identify and reduce risks.
- To avoid errors and fraud, ensure that duties are segregated.
Assist accounting officers by coordinating activities and ensuring daily and weekly reconciliation of bank and cash positions.
- Monitor daily operations to ensure timely reconciliation of bank statements and cash balances.
- Provide accounting staff with training and guidance to ensure operational excellence.
- Resolve disputes and keep accurate records of all financial transactions.
Ensure that all financial transactions are documented in accounting software.
- Oversee the accurate recording and categorizing of financial transactions.
- Ensure that the accounting software is updated on a regular basis and that the team is using it properly.
- Conduct periodic assessments to ensure that submissions are accurate and full.
Provide administrative oversight for the Admin Unit team, including drivers and cleaners.
- Supervise the administrative unit to ensure that operations run smoothly and resources are used optimally.
- Create and monitor performance requirements for support staff, such as drivers and cleaners.
- Maintain the proper condition of office facilities and equipment.
Ensure compliance with all statutory payments.
- Monitor and oversee the timely transmission of statutory payments such as pensions and taxes.
- Keep correct remittance records for future reference and audit purposes.
- Maintain compliance by staying up to date on changes in legislative requirements.
Keep up with and comply with state and industry financial legal requirements.
- To ensure compliance, continuously review new and existing financial legislation.
- Inform management about the ramifications of legislation changes and propose appropriate revisions.
- Ensure that policies and activities comply with legal and regulatory frameworks.
Prepare accurate weekly financial reports.
- Prepare and deliver detailed financial reports, including cash flow summaries.
- Highlight important financial facts, trends, and variances for decision-making.
- Ensure that reports are accurate, timely, and well-written.
Ensure prudent cost management, avoid unnecessary purchases and protect company property.
- Regularly evaluate spending records to detect and eliminate inefficiencies.
- Implement procurement policies that are cost-effective.
- Develop measures to protect firm assets from loss or theft.
Maintain an updated asset register for the company.
- Maintain a record of all corporate assets, including acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation.
- Perform periodic physical verification to ensure the existence and condition of assets.
- Ensure compliance with asset management accounting standards.
Keep accurate records of all documents, files, and folders for reference. Always:
- Keep an organized document management system.
- Ensure that records can be easily retrieved to support auditing, reporting, and regulatory obligations.
- Back up your records on a regular basis to prevent data loss or damage.
Required Skill or Experience
QuickBooks expertise and pension scheme accounting will be an added plus.
