Pele dies at 82 after cancer battle.

Pele, one of the greatest footballers of all time, won three World Cups after debuting at 17. Pele, 82, died.

Pele, football’s first global superstar, was being treated for colon cancer after surgery to remove a tumor in September 2021. After being hospitalized at the end of November to reevaluate his cancer treatment, he was diagnosed with a respiratory infection and moved to palliative care when his body stopped responding to chemotherapy.

While his wife, Marcia Aoki, stayed by his bedside at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo, doctors and nurses made him as comfortable as possible. He died Thursday. Kely Nascimento, his daughter, posted: “We owe you everything. Love you forever. RIP.”
