JOB SUMMARY:
This position presents a unique opportunity to work with the novel Policy and Advocacy Department within Operation Smile as the organization embarks on its fifth decade to strengthen surgical and cleft care delivery in poorly resourced countries around the world.
To achieve its vision, OSI is looking for a health policy associate to play a critical role in supporting the implementation of Operation Smile’s health policy and advocacy strategy.
The health policy associate will work with members of the Policy and Advocacy department as well as headquarter staff, local foundations, partner countries, Ministries of Health, and many other stakeholders to identify and implement policy and advocacy solutions to increase the prioritization of surgical and cleft care globally, regionally and nationally.
The role requires someone passionate about global health with the ability to establish and develop collaborative equitable partnerships around policy and advocacy.
Essential duties and responsibilities, but are not limited to:
- Draft policy and advocacy training manuals and assessment tools
- Conduct literature reviews around global health policy and advocacy
- Assist with setting up and leading internal and external P&A webinars
- Conduct P&A situation analysis and support local foundations in program countries with the development of country-specific P&A strategies
- Coordinate the future leaders in the global surgery P&A program and other related initiatives
- Draft and publish editorials and advocacy pieces
- Work with other team members to develop targeted cleft and global surgery advocacy campaigns
- Provide research support with drafting proposals, obtaining IRB approvals, managing project implementation, manuscript drafting
- Coordinate communication and programs with Operation Smile’s policy and advocacy partners
- Develop and disseminate policy briefs to various policymakers and relevant stakeholders, P&A
- Represent the department and foundation at various local, regional, and global meetings and conferences
- Write grant applications and proposals for the department
- Provide/Perform detailed health policy analysis and help strengthen them.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum qualification and Skills Required
- Graduate of a master’s level program in public health (MPH), public policy (MPP) or
- other related fields are a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in public health or a related field is a must.
- One to two years of experience in global health
- At least one year of global health research experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Proficiency in data analysis package preferably R, Stata, SPSS
- Should be able to provide writing samples
