Norwegian Embassy Announces Processing Time Extensions and Delays for Schengen Visas

Applicants for visas from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Pakistan are advised to exercise caution, according to the Norwegian Embassy in Abu Dhabi. The embassy recommended against buying plane tickets before hearing back positively from the consulate and recommended applicants submit their Schengen visa applications at least 15 days before their planned departure date.

Important advice for those applying for Schengen visas from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates has been released by the Norwegian Embassy in Abu Dhabi. It is recommended that applicants submit their applications at least 15 days before the date of travel.

No Prior Ticket Purchase

The Embassy stressed how crucial it is to wait to buy airline tickets until after being informed of a visa decision. It is important to plan because applicants are informed that once the application procedure begins, they cannot cancel their passports.

Application Deadline and Conditions

Applications for visas are accepted by the Embassy up to six months before the intended departure date. To apply, though, you must do so at least 15 days in advance. By taking this precaution, applicants can ensure that their travel plans won’t be disrupted by delayed visa processing. It is strongly advised to postpone making trip plans until after a visa is granted.

Current Processing Status

The Royal Norwegian Embassy has sent a news release stating that applications received in the first half of August 2024 are presently being reviewed. The majority of these applications come from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. In addition, a backlog of applications is evident in the Embassy’s processing of visa appeals submitted before to August 2023.

Delays in Visa Processing During Peak Season

The Embassy has made it clear that during peak seasons or when more information is needed, processing delays could go up to 45 calendar days. Similar delays may happen when applications are submitted to the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI).

It is recommended that applicants have patience, as their passports will be held at the Embassy until their applications have been completed. The Embassy does not answer calls or requests from social media. Instead, you should send an English email to VFS Global, which is in charge of handling client interactions.

Impacts of High Season

There may be extended waiting periods for certain visa applications during the busiest travel seasons. Despite this, the Embassy strives to issue judgments ahead of the applicants’ specified travel dates, provided that all necessary documentation is received on schedule.

Visa Application Statistics for 2023

The United Arab Emirates was one of the countries from which the most visa applications to Norway were made in 2023. 10,691 visa requests were filed overall by applicants from the United Arab Emirates, indicating a high level of interest in visiting Norway.

  • Approval Rate: 72.8 percent of these applications were accepted, indicating a comparatively high success rate for candidates from the United Arab Emirates.
  • Multiple Entry Visas: Of the visas that were accepted, 2,673, or 34.3 percent, were issued as Multiple Entry Visas (MEVs), which let the bearer enter Norway more than once while the visa was valid.

Despite the difficulties brought on by seasonal spikes and an increase in applications, the Embassy’s continuous efforts to effectively handle high demand and issue visas on time are highlighted by the volume of applications.

Advice for Applicants: Reapply or File an Appeal?

The Embassy suggests that applicants carefully assess their options before deciding whether to reapply or challenge a visa denial. Limited visa slots are available during peak season, and because of the higher volume of applications and additional requirements, processing times may be prolonged.

Applicants can enhance their chances of a seamless and fruitful visa application procedure by adhering to these rules and making ample preparations beforehand. Applicants are advised to visit the official website of the Norwegian Embassy or send an email to the VFS directly for additional information.
