POSITION: Electrical/Automation Engineer
GGBL operates across four beverage categories: Stout, Lager, Ready-to-Drink (RTD), and Malt, in addition to the distribution of spirits. The company holds a commanding 75% share of the total market volume.
The Ghanaian economy is projected to maintain growth at mid to high single-digit rates in a favourable environment.
Consumers and clients in this region demand products of the highest quality. Additionally, a burgeoning middle class is inclined to explore new offerings. Current growth in the country stands at 6%, with the potential to reach 10% by fiscal year 2009.
The role is essential within the GGBL site packaging maintenance team. The Packaging Engineer – Electrical/Automation Engineer reports to the Packaging Maintenance Engineer and is tasked with ensuring plant availability and machine efficiency, collaborating closely with a team of technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure 100% compliance with Safety, Statutory, Engineering, and Risk Management Standards.
- Provide insights into packaging maintenance strategies.
- Meet packaging engineering Key Performance Indicators.
- Enhance asset performance against targets by executing effective planned maintenance activities (such as shutdowns and overhauls) and offering technical recommendations to packaging teams in partnership with the packaging maintenance planner.
- Implement optimal engineering practices and mentor team members in packaging asset care management.
- Participate in the execution of packaging overhauls to guarantee timely completion according to specifications and budget.
- Optimize product quality through continuous monitoring and meticulous attention to detail, achieving Right First Time (RFT) on quality and control parameters. Address non-conformances promptly to maintain process integrity. Document and share learnings to prevent recurrence.
- Manage the materials, components, and spare parts necessary for plant and equipment operations, including the withdrawal of stock from locally provided “bins” and taking responsibility for the inventory drawn down.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- A degree or equivalent experience in Engineering or HND Engineering is essential.
- Candidates should possess a proven track record in maintenance engineering within a food or beverage manufacturing setting.
- Membership in the GhIE or a similarly recognized organization would be advantageous.
- Demonstrated first-line leadership capabilities are also required.
Skills and Knowledge
- Proficiency in computer applications is necessary.
- Candidates should exhibit strong resource leadership abilities, effective people management and motivational skills, as well as networking, influencing, and communication skills.
- Additionally, counseling and research skills are important, along with the ability to manage complexity.
Barriers to Success in Role
Challenges may arise from an inability to establish and maintain positive relationships. A lack of understanding of the commercial and demand aspects of the Guinness Ghana Breweries Ltd business may hinder performance. Furthermore, insufficient demonstration of essential leadership skills and the failure to utilize appropriate language skills when necessary can be detrimental. Inability to effectively manage personnel for success is also a concern.
