POSITION: Governance & Risk Manager

Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA) has a great opportunity for an experienced Governance and Risk Manager. This is a specialist and manager post, with direct responsibility for managing an in-country compliance team and extensive interaction with leadership at all levels across the country.

A Governance & Risk Manager must be well-versed in all operational processes, particularly manufacturing, as well as audit-related activities, in order to provide a well-informed and educated approach to managing, monitoring, and executing in-country projects. In-depth understanding of the controls in The Coca-Cola Company’s (TCCC) Risk & Control Matrix (RACM) and Control Self-Assessments (CSAs).

CCBA is Africa’s largest Coca-Cola bottler, accounting for 40% of total Coca-Cola volumes. CCBA has a large presence in Africa, employing over 17,000 people and serving a population of over 300 million people across the continent.

The primary goal of the position is to:

  • Manage the country’s operational compliance deliverables by providing effective leadership, direction, coordination, training, and professional guidance to the country compliance team.
  • Manage all operational, financial, and compliance audits and initiatives in the country.
  • Contribute to and supervise the formulation and implementation of the country’s annual governance calendar.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Country Compliance Leadership Role:

  • Steer compliance activities to enable a more robust and proficient approach, reduce fraud, and close control gaps.
  • Maintain and expand the leading role for all compliance-related efforts in the country.
  • Partner with the CMT and MD on a daily basis or as needed on compliance matters; make operational recommendations.
  • Update and update nation senior leadership on an ongoing basis of changes in operational risk and the corresponding mitigation measures.

Internal Control and Reporting:

  • Maintain standard operating practices (SOPs) in-country and maintain alignment of compliance-related policies, controls, and processes; contribute to the creation of SOPs as needed.
  • Monitor and manage performance against each RACM and CSA control, analyze audit findings, and track actions taken to reduce gaps and remedy variances detected.
  • Review, analyze, and optimize CSA methods, processes, and reporting to drive efficiency in the assessment of control efficacy.
  • RACM narratives should be updated and reviewed cross-functionally to ensure they are aligned with business processes and requirements.
  • Create RACM Control Self-Assessments (RSAs) that use a risk-based methodology to evaluate processes and assess compliance across the country.
  • Review all reporting data and information from the country compliance team to compile packs, presentation decks, and needed documentation.
  • Create Board presentations, country audit committee packs, and other high-level review/meeting documents in a timely and effective manner.
  • Draft Business Continuity Plans (BCP) and policies, conduct annual regular testing, and report on the findings of testing.
  • Report to the RCM and CMT on applicable governance matters using reports such as
  • Audit Committee Packs, RACM and CSA testing results, Issues Mitigation Tracker
  • Share in-country best practices with CCMs and RCMs to improve internal controls and compliance across the region.
  • Compile the country’s quarterly RACM and CSA results.

Internal and external audits:

  • Review the applicability of country-in-scope controls in coordination with internal and external auditors, to ensure alignment with business processes.
  • Facilitate the review of national audit requests and the allocation of information requests to applicable process owners; advise auditors, national Compliance Officers, and operations to ensure that audits execute smoothly within the specified time period.
  • Collect and provide needed information to internal and external auditors to assess compliance with internal controls.
  • Review, analyze, and interpret important audit findings and associated action plans for the country to appropriately mitigate the identified risk; investigate and escalate findings or issues as needed.
  • Risk and Governance Capability Help build training content to enhance internal control and governance capacities across the country.
  • Coach and train the national compliance team on any modifications and upgrades to RACM, related policies, information gathering, and report writing.
  • Encourage and actively contribute to a knowledge-sharing culture among the country’s compliance team
  • Engage with other CCMs to share best practices.
  • Relationship management involves collaborating with customers and stakeholders in-country, understanding their needs and operating situations, and managing expectations.
  • Provide specialized support as the primary point of contact for the country’s compliance and operational teams.
  • Communicate frankly with the Compliance Community of Practice to share information
  • Demonstrate the capacity to handle and diffuse disagreement successfully.

Skills, Experience, and Education

Qualifications & Experience:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or a comparable profession.
  • Chartered Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and appropriate experience will be considered.
  • Additional diplomas, such as Policy Framing, Control Framework Design, and Forensics
  • Investigation, will be regarded as advantageous.
  • Hands-on expertise with SAP and/or Microsoft Dynamics is needed.
  • Prior governance and control expertise in a manufacturing context is preferred.
  • Additional internal auditing experience will be beneficial.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5+ years of operational finance experience.
