PROJECT DESCRIPTION
USAID Advancing Nutrition is the main multi-sectoral nutrition project of USAID. It is led by JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. (JSI) and a group of experienced partners from different fields. USAID Advancing Nutrition was started in September 2018 and works to improve nutrition across sectors and disciplines for USAID and its partners. It also gives technical support to nutrition interventions.
The project’s multi-sectoral approach uses global nutrition experience to design, implement, and evaluate programs that address the root causes of malnutrition. USAID Advancing Nutrition is committed to using a systems approach. It tries to keep positive results going by building local capacity, helping people change their behaviors, and strengthening the environment to save lives, improve health, build resilience, boost economic productivity, and move development forward.
From 2020 to 2023, USAID Advancing Nutrition will provide technical support and assessment services to help the Ghanaian government improve the fair delivery of high-quality services that strengthen families and help young children grow and develop. USAID’s “Advancing Nutrition” program will help strengthen national and local government planning in Northern Ghana and encourage the creation of multisectoral solutions to the most pressing food security and nutrition problems. The portfolio will include both USAID/Washington and the USAID Mission to Ghana-funded projects.
Reporting
The Finance Assistant will help the Finance and Administrative Manager with the day-to-day financial operations of the project. He or she will report to the Finance and Administrative Manager.
Summary of the Job
The Finance Assistant will help with finances and administration to make sure that the accounting and finance parts of the project run smoothly. He/she will check the project ledgers for all advances and expenses that have already been paid. He or she will also follow up on advances that are still due. The Finance Assistant will check all documents and vouchers to make sure they are all there and that the numbers are correct. They will also help scan and upload all documents so that the US office can look at them.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Check the paperwork that goes with each paid cash voucher.
- Help check all invoices from vendors, including those for travel, by attaching the necessary paperwork.
- Make sure all the supporting documents are there and, if necessary, follow up with the right people to get the whole package.
- Put together voucher packages for Finance Officers and the F&A Manager to look over.
- Sort and file financial papers.
- Scan and upload packages of vouchers for the US office to look over.
- Talk to the program team about voucher packages to make sure all the paperwork is in order.
- Do any other tasks that the F&A Manager might give you from time to time.
Skills or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or administration, or something that’s the same,
- Experience: You must have worked in Finance and Administration for at least two years. The time spent in an internship will count as experience.
- Languages: English fluency in writing and speech
Required Skills:
- Understanding of the basics of accounting.
- Attention to detail.
- Strong skills in planning, organizing, and talking to people
- Ability to handle multiple deadlines and tasks
- Ability to take charge and finish tasks with little guidance
- Highly motivated person who can work toward the organization’s goals and objectives.
- Know-how and practice with QuickBooks
- Work with an international organization for development
- Work experience with a project paid for by USAID
- Effective communication skills to work with all levels of employees and partners
