POSITION: Secretary General
The Ghana Red Cross seeks to hire a skilled and competent Ghanaian person to fill the position of Secretary General.
Purpose
- The Secretary General (SG) reports to the Governing Board of the GRCS and implements the GRCS’s strategic goals and objectives
- The Secretary General is responsible for implementing the governing board’s policies, including the Ghana Red Cross Statutes and Rules of Procedure.
Key Responsibilities
- The Secretary General provides strategic and visionary leadership.
- Operational responsibility includes designing, implementing, and assessing strategies to meet humanitarian challenges and opportunities.
- Furthermore, she or he is accountable for designing and managing solid management systems based on strong corporate governance and best practices aimed at improving organizational effectiveness and achieving financial sustainability.
- Other responsibilities include leading the execution of strategic change management processes and monitoring the society’s performance to guarantee the effective use of physical, financial, and human resources.
Key Competencies
- Strong leadership, team building, conflict resolution, and the ability to deliver the society’s expressed goal for change provide a feeling of urgency and drive workers to join change activities.
- Expertise in disaster management and humanitarian relief at national, regional, and international levels to prevent and alleviate human suffering.
- Capable of managing change and adapting to changing conditions to align programs with societal goals.
- Proven technical expertise in strategic management, project planning, budgeting, resource management, and implementation
- Capability to influence and settle disagreements across organizational boundaries, garnering support and commitment from others, settling conflicts by evaluating needs and developing solutions that benefit all parties, promoting collaboration, and facilitating teamwork across boundaries.
Qualifications & Experience
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in development studies, social work, business administration, or a similar discipline, or a professional degree.
- A master’s degree in development studies, social work, or business administration is preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of experience, preferably in the non-profit sector.
- Preferred experience in humanitarian relief organizations, including disaster management and organizational development.
- Experience managing and leading private or public sector organizations.
