POSITION: Electrical and Instrumentation Technician

This role involves conducting electrical and instrumentation maintenance for the underground mine, ensuring equipment is safe, maximizing plant and equipment availability, minimizing unplanned tasks, and reducing costs.
In this role, you will
General electrical maintenance
- Participate in electrical and instrumentation maintenance to suit underground mining business needs.
- To ensure plant and equipment availability, service, maintain, and repair all electrical equipment according to authorized maintenance standards.
- Contact maintenance, operational, and planning staff to identify, plan, estimate, and organize labor, services, equipment, and skills to meet demand.
- Contact the supervisor and maintenance planning to verify the underground mine and associated facilities have all the essential maintenance parts, materials, and supplies.
- Work under tight quality standards and tolerance limits to assist maintenance quality assurance.
- Help create and review maintenance STPs.
- Join continual improvement projects to boost mine performance.
- Help coordinate and execute procedural and operational initiatives and modifications in underground mining infrastructure using change management.
- Check and approve electrical and instrumentation designs and schematics and suggest changes based on technical standards and procedures.
- Help the maintenance and planning teams identify electrical maintenance backlogs and organize equipment shutdowns.
- Provide efficient spare part, material, and consumable management.
- Follow business tooling use, storage, and maintenance guidelines.
- Keep underground mine infrastructure maintenance areas clean.
- Where possible, decrease waste and improve operational management to control maintenance expenses.
- Attend needed training and development.
- Do other responsibilities within the individual’s skill set as ordered by the Supervisor, underground mine maintenance management, or senior mine officials.
Electricity Maintenance Management
- Perform electrical repairs on underground mine plant and equipment and associated infrastructure with the maintenance crew.
- Troubleshoot all electrical and instrumentation systems to repair and maintain them.
- Complete all practical and technical activities related to electrical and instrumentation systems and equipment safely, quickly, and efficiently.
- Help operations and maintenance fix plant and equipment issues.
- Provide technical support and expert advice for underground mine infrastructure work to ensure safety.
- Help the maintenance staff, other departments, and business partners handle difficulties that will prevent the underground mine from receiving reliable and stable services that meet business technical needs.
- To guarantee equipment and maintenance implementation and compliance with OEM and statutory requirements, inspect them.
- Participate in failure analysis investigations as needed.
Health and Safety Management
- Help electrical maintenance meet Newmont’s Integrated Management System, vision, and values for HSLP, Environment, and Social Responsibility.
- Help ensure that electrical equipment, installations, and work meets the Mineral and Mining (Health, Safety, and Technical) Regulation, LI 2182.
- Support health and safety compliance programs.
- Be responsible for your health and safety.
- Attend safety meetings, inspections, and audits.
- Perform risk assessments and offer expert advise on electrical infrastructure safety.
- Actively promote workplace safety within and outside the electrical maintenance team.
Management of communication and information
- Manage all documentation responsibly.
- Complete required maintenance reports and distribute to mining officials and staff.
- As needed, attend shift handover and other meetings with the maintenance team and other departments and staff to obtain or distribute information.
- Participate in mechanical equipment and installation asset management strategy formulation.
- Give the Supervisor and maintenance crew suggestions for improvement.
- Help operations and outside departments communicate about underground mine equipment upkeep.
- To efficiently fix faults, communicate with operations, maintenance, planning, and management.
- Inform the Supervisor and others of electrical repair needs.
- Regular feedback, contact, reports, meetings, and briefings improve staff communication.
Checklist: Training, Skills, and Experience
Professional registrations and formal qualifications:
- Required: Electrical Engineering Technician II qualification or equivalent.
- Post-trade qualifications in appropriate fields are valued.
- Inspecting or Sectional Engineer competency/MINCOM Certification is preferred.
- In the absence of Mincom certification, inspecting engineer certification must be obtained within a reasonable timeframe.
Additional Info:
- Know mining or heavy industry maintenance techniques, principles, and requirements.

Experience:
- Must have 4 years of electrical maintenance experience.
- Proven expertise installing, commissioning, maintaining, servicing, inspecting, and repairing electrical equipment in major mining or heavy industry operations.
- Operating and maintaining extra-low, low, and high-voltage electrical equipment.
- PLC operation experience is valued.
- Underground mining experience is valued.
Technical Skills:
