POSITION: Head of HR, L&D

Company Profile

Lively Minds is a well-known nonprofit organization working with Ghana Education Services (GES) to start a new early childhood development program. We are hiring in Ghana to help expand this program to 60 districts in 8 regions. To learn more about our program, please visit www.livelyminds.org

Main Duties and Responsibilities

HR Strategy, Organizational Effectiveness, and Culture

  • Work with leadership to create a human resources (HR) strategy that helps our organization reach its goals.
  • Foster a cooperative environment where teams can work together whether they are in the office or remote.
  • Develop a culture that energizes our staff and helps deliver good results.

Performance Management, Leadership, and Learning and Development

  • Create a performance management strategy to ensure we get great outcomes for our people and improve our organization.
  • Assist the Learning and Development Manager in creating a leadership and training strategy to meet our growing needs.
  • Manage the reward and recognition strategy to ensure fairness and alignment with our policies.

HR Policies and Compliance

  • Ensure we have up-to-date HR policies that follow all laws in the countries where we operate.
  • Create monitoring systems to ensure compliance across Lively Minds, including for any contractors we use.
  • Research and prepare for HR needs when entering new countries, including setting up new offices.

Employee Lifecycle Management and Employee Relations

  • Oversee day-to-day HR activities at Lively Minds and participate in senior recruitment processes.
  • Manage employee relations while adhering to organizational policies and labour laws.
  • Ensure that travel processes are cost-effective and that the Travel Coordinator provides excellent service.
  • Oversee security, health, and safety matters in cooperation with the Senior Management team.
  • Be ready to take on other tasks as agreed with your manager based on your skills and experience.

Required Skills or Experience

To succeed in this role, you should:

  • Be great with people and have significant experience in strategic HR and people management.
  • Be passionate about developing a strong culture and values within Lively Minds.
  • Have experience working in a developing country with a diverse workforce and be willing to work in other countries.
  • Be adaptable, resilient, and capable of handling uncertainty.
  • Communicate clearly and positively influence others during changes, as our organization is always evolving.
  • Provide HR advice and support as we grow and expand internationally.

Technical Abilities (Essential)

  • Experience leading HR in a non-profit or social enterprise in at least one developing country.
  • Ability to work with a diverse team and create a positive culture with strong values.
  • Manage a varied workload and perform well under pressure.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to Ghana, Uganda, and other African countries.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Desirable

  • Experience in the NGO sector, especially in organizations that have scaled successfully.
  • Living in Ghana or Uganda.
  • Change management qualification.
