EduSpots, a UK and Ghanaian organization, connects, trains, and equips volunteer community educators to offer transformative literacy and STEM opportunities in ‘Spots’ that focus on female empowerment and environmental action. We are creating community-based changemakers.
Since 2016, we have worked with over 250 local volunteers to help 50 communities develop and operate community-led and owned education spaces called ‘Spots’ and move to our ‘Dream Spot Model’. A global community-led education paradigm with network interaction is being developed.
Our 16-person Ghanaian team works part-time and remotely to create collaborative learning opportunities for over 15,000 students of all ages through our Ignite and Community Leadership in Development (CLEd) Programmes, which include leadership training for our EduLit, EduSTEM, EduKidz, and Ignite Girls clubs and locally designed education projects. Job Description
Reporting to: CEO About the Role
We are searching for an engaging and dynamic fundraising specialist and team member with a strong track record of money generation to embark on this exciting new role at this critical stage of our organization’s growth.
EduSpots has dramatically increased its income over the previous two years while also improving the quality, scope, and reach of its operations in Ghana, with plans to expand further in the coming years. We are searching for someone who understands the need of community-led change, as all of our work is focused on and results from the efforts of 400 locally based educational Catalysts.
Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be responsible for increasing our income production from trusts and foundations, as well as developing a strong network of partnerships with schools, corporations, and individuals that will effectively contribute to our overall yearly revenue targets. We are searching for an experienced professional who can collaborate with the CEO to build larger fundraising partnerships at this stage of our development.
You will manage a small part-time fundraising staff that includes a Fundraising Manager, Trusts and Foundations Manager, and Communications Manager, as well as interns and other income-generating opportunities that may arise.
This is an exciting and flexible position for someone who is passionate about educational equity and wants to work in a creative, fast-paced team with big goals for expanding the impact of our unique approach to supporting community-led change via education.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of this post include:
Team Management
- Manage the Trusts and Foundations Manager (part-time, one day per week), the Fundraising Manager (two days per week), and the Communications Manager (full-time), as well as any other income-generating roles that arise, ensuring strategic input into their work and supporting their professional development and well-being.
- Oversee the effective utilization of interns to support our fundraising and communications efforts. Trusts & Foundations
- Help the Trusts and Foundations Manager maintain relationships with small and medium-sized trusts and foundations.
- Oversee our grants database, which tracks and monitors applications, outcomes, reporting obligations, and other details.
- Develop contacts with new larger grant makers and prepare material, such as application requirements and deadlines.
- Collaborate with the UK and Ghana teams to identify projects, programmes, and areas of focus for grant financing.
- Develop financing proposals and applications, collaborating with the CEO and the delivery team to guarantee correct information.
- Support the Trusts and Foundations Manager in compiling reporting data that satisfies the funder’s needs and timeframes.
Community Fundraising, Events, and Individual Giving
- Collaborate with the Fundraising Manager to strengthen relationships in support of our work by providing strategic input into campaigns, events, school collaborations, the Elmina-based EduSpots Experience, and the rebuilding of online courses.
- Collaborate with the CEO to manage fundraising efforts for our 10th anniversary in 2025.
- To oversee the construction and strategic direction of the EduChamps Community, as well as the successful use of our newsletter.
- To expand on our individual donating strategy (“EduChamps Club”) through our tenth anniversary celebrations.
- Collaborate with the Fundraising Manager and Interns to identify potential supporters and expand our database of donors and sponsors. Ensure accurate recording and tracking of information.
Corporate Partnerships
- Identify, develop, and promote sponsorship possibilities that are appealing to corporate partners and generate revenue for specific initiatives and programmes.
- Other responsibilities include helping the charity’s fundraising efforts, developing the yearly business plan and budget, and preparing the annual report.
- Ensure that all administrative activities related to the function are completed accurately.
- Always follow the organization’s policies, procedures, and employee performance requirements as outlined in the Staff and Catalysts Handbook.
- Any other duties that may be legitimately necessary in the function.
Required Skill or Experience
Skills, Experience, and Attributes
Essential
- Proven track record of income creation, preferably in a similar education or international development agency.
- Experience in fundraising bids, grants, and/or corporate collaborations totaling at least five to six figures (GBP).
- Experience developing and managing productive partnerships with trusts, foundations, and grant-makers
- Extensive understanding of UK and foreign funding, including European and US-based organizations.
- Some expertise in communication and marketing in an NGO setting.
- Experience establishing and sustaining successful revenue-generating relationships, preferably with corporations and/or schools.
- Experience supervising individual donation campaigns and fundraising through digital marketing.
- Friendly and adaptable team player with the ability to collaborate with people from various backgrounds, inspiring the team and wider colleagues to achieve our common goals.
- Effective Team Management
- Proven experience in creating engaging and effective financing proposals.
- Experience administering funds and reporting to funders and contributors.
- Ability to function effectively in a remote capacity with limited day-to-day support.
- Outstanding interpersonal abilities, as well as excellent written and vocal communication skills, allow us to advocate for our work both online and in person.
- Ability to take initiative and work under tight and conflicting deadlines
- Good IT abilities, including Word, Excel, and Google Drive.
