We support sustainable development on behalf of the German government and other partners. Our work spans crucial areas like economic development, energy, climate, and governance.
We are currently recruiting a Technical Advisor for Research & Development and Skills Development for the “PharmaVax Ghana” programme. This innovative initiative, co-financed by the European Union and German Cooperation, aims to strengthen Ghana’s pharmaceutical manufacturing ecosystem. The programme focuses on four key pillars: governance, skills development, research and development, and private sector growth.
Your Role and Impact
In this pivotal role, you will provide technical leadership for the programme’s skills development and R&D components. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring activities that build the long-term capacity of our partner institutions in Ghana’s pharmaceutical sector.
Key Responsibilities
Your work will be diverse and impactful, encompassing the following areas:
- Coordinating R&D Support: You will manage programme support for Ghanaian research institutions, focusing on enhancing laboratory capabilities, providing testing services for manufacturers, and promoting intellectual property utilization.
- Managing Research Grants: You will coordinate and monitor grants awarded to local institutions for collaborative pharmaceutical and vaccine R&D projects with private sector manufacturers.
- Strengthening Education: A key duty involves coordinating support to strengthen higher education programmes in pharmaceutical engineering.
- Facilitating International Collaboration: You will support the management of international vaccine research collaborations based in Kumasi.
- Representing the Programme: Furthermore, you will act as the primary representative for the programme in Kumasi and northern Ghana, actively engaging with local pharmaceutical manufacturers.
Core Tasks Will Include:
- Coordinating technical, logistical, and financial support for partners while ensuring alignment with national policies.
- Preparing detailed analyses, strategic plans, concept notes, and progress reports.
- Providing expert technical and strategic advice to both partner institutions and programme management.
- Ensuring full compliance with GIZ procedures and maintaining meticulous documentation.
- Managing procurement processes and monitoring service providers.
- Fostering close collaboration with team members, partner institutions, and other GIZ projects.
Your Profile and Qualifications
- A Master’s or Doctorate degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Life Sciences, or a closely related discipline.
- At least five years of professional experience in pharmaceutical, vaccine, or related research within public research institutions.
- Strong consulting skills with a proven ability to build trust and develop the capacity of partner organizations.
- Excellent competencies in results-oriented project management, including planning, budgeting, and monitoring.
- Proficiency in MS Office and digital communication tools.
- Full professional fluency in written and spoken English.
- Practical R&D experience within the pharmaceutical industry and a background in academia-industry collaboration.
- Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical laboratory work and instruments.
- Familiarity with GIZ or other development agency procedures.
- Knowledge of French or German is a valuable advantage.
