Role Overview

The Field Auditor acts as an independent control agent across Degas’ field operations. This critical position involves verifying farmer registration, input distribution, and recovery activities to prevent fraud and ensure strict procedure adherence. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong ethical judgment, analytical skills, and a commitment to agricultural development.

Key Responsibilities

Audit Execution & Verification

Conduct random field audits and spot checks for all key operational processes
Verify farmer registration data through physical visits and cross-referencing
Inspect input distribution channels and warehouse storage facilities
Confirm proper delivery of inputs and equipment to intended recipients
Assess internal control effectiveness and identify improvement areas

Compliance & Risk Management

Detect and document procedural violations or potential fraud incidents
Analyze data patterns to identify ghost farmers or system mismatches
Implement immediate corrective measures for compliance gaps
Escalate critical irregularities to management promptly
Ensure consistent application of control policies across regions

Reporting & Process Improvement

Prepare detailed audit reports with findings and recommendations
Collaborate with operations teams to resolve identified issues
Provide insights for enhancing standard operating procedures
Support digital tool development for improved monitoring

Capacity Building

Train field staff on compliance requirements and ethical standards
Promote an organizational culture of transparency and accountability
Share best practices for fraud prevention and data accuracy

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Agriculture, Business, or related field
Minimum 2 years in audit, compliance, or field verification roles
Experience in agriculture, microfinance, or development sectors preferred
Strong investigative skills and attention to detail
High ethical standards and professional independence
Willingness to undertake frequent rural travel
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel/Sheets and digital data tools

Preferred:

Local language proficiency
Experience with KoboToolbox, CommCare, or similar platforms
Understanding of agricultural value chains and smallholder contexts
